I think AMD is still very impressive despite all their financial issues. To be able to remain very competitive in the GPU market, maintain reasonable gains on APU performance and the promise of an aggressive new CPU architecture while having such a cut-back budget is very admirable.
I'm a sucker for the perpetual underdog though.
Maybe a ceo and managerial wage rethink would be a better option, all these lay offs are disheartening I can't help but feel sorry for all those about to lose their jobs for the sake of progress.

AMDs layoff is nothing in comparison to MS's layoff. They laid off some 20,000 people earlier this year iirc and plan on cutting 7,000 more from the mobile department or something along those lines.
Still letting your engineers go in there position, not good at all.
