AMD reveals its RX 6600 XT graphics card for high refresh rate 1080p gaming

I kinda think AMD are justified to classify MAX Settings as excluding Ray tracing.

After all Ray tracing is a feature, and often a toggle. Much like HDR being a toggle on or off.

I think thats why I like reviews that segregate these parameters showing Max setting at resolution X, and also max setting at resolution X with RT on.

Its a nice comparison when choosing a video card. It allows us to decide if we want to value RT or not. For those that dont care for RT, they have a valid benchmark and can sway towards this GPU. If RT is important, they have the results to see that perhaps Nvidia is the go to card.

I feel like these companies have to be careful. If they keep increasing prices, they're going to push consumers away.

A large part of the problem is that component costs, cardboard costs and shipping costs are up. MSRP pricing is difficult to achieve these days with things as they are.

AMD and Nvidia are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to pricing. An MSRP that is too low is unachievable in today's market. A price that is too high is opening them to a backlash from consumers.

I can't wait for the situation to improve, but it will take a while until prices get lower for manufacturers. It's a total mess.

They already have in my eyes. I always had money set aside for the latest and greatest, but even I look at these prices now and think the value is not there anymore.

I still think back to the days of the 780Ti where it was cost me £700 for the flagship. That will just be enough for a maintstream GPU these days.

And now AMD have a good fight on their hands and dont need to undercut to be competitive, we will see the prices going up not down due to demand.

AMD are being greedy. It really is as simple as that.

Their technology is inferior to Nvidia's, their R&D budget was clearly far less than Nvidia's, they have no hardware accelerated ray tracing or DLSS with dedicated hardware and yet they are basically asking the same amount of money for the same amount of raw rasterization performance.

Let's face it, AMD/ATI GPUs have never been as good as Nvidia (apart from that one time with the 5000 series, and even then Nvidia answered with the 500 cards) yet slowly since then they have been creeping up their prices to take the pee levels with Nvidia.

Now I wouldn't mind if AMD pumped in a ton of cash to effectively come up with a world beating ground shaking GPU but they haven't. All they did was shrink Navi. They added nothing more than that, yet they want big boy prices for their GPUs, quite probably all based on their CPU successes over the past few years.

Which is stupid.

And yeah, the last post raises the point entirely. £400+ for a 1080p card. Why? why on earth would you even bother? it doesn't even do anything special at 1080p like hardware accelerated RT. I mean, I could see someone paying £400 for that, even if it were just to try it and see what all the fuss is about.

And I am not jumping on the Nvidia hype train with RT at all. Personally I still don't reckon it to be much. However, at least it's there.

Well I'll agree with Alien on the prices, but it's not like Nvidia aren't being greedy themselves sure they put out some FE's but the AIB's are milking all the cows after all same as AMD did some reference cards but the AIB's are miliking it all really well.

While Nvidia have an edge on RT I've had no issues with any games and RT and everything has been very playable the newer version of metro exodus played twice as fast on my card as the older version of the game, but yea sure Nvidia have an edge but i really feel the gap is smaller than people persive it as tbh.

RT after all isn't exactly in that many games and I own them all.

Fear not cause nothing will change come 4k series or RDNA3 if anything they will not only milk the cows they will cut them all up and start selling off your organs as well at this point it wouldn't suprise me.
