AMD has revealed their future GPU roadmap, increasing their estimates for the power saving provided by the Polaris Architecture and revealing that Polaris may be using HBM instead of HBM2 memory. No HBM2 on Polaris?

Well this may mean Polaris just uses hbm1 across the lineup and the high end ones use HBM2 under a different name? There's just been no indication before that they wouldn't, it's already undergone volume production since 2016 started and these chips probably won't be out until summer. It wouldn't make sense to not use it.

Polaris will most likely use HBM1 and Vega, which specificly got the HBM2 badge on the roadmap, will be released early 2017 with HBM2.

not surprising really, If they really are expecting 2.5x performance per watt they can push there GPU's and get good results without it. And with Nvidia not rolling out HBM on their next line up (allegedly) theres no need. They may be able to really put pressure on Nvidia if they perform well and keep the price low.

HBM might be on the entire lineup this time round instead of just the top end?

GDDR5X ?

I would rather have the above than use HBM1 again on Polaris.

Why?

And nothing will be using 5X.. it doesn't start any volume production until summer. That's from microns website. That rumor needs to get thrown out already. You can't have it on a card if it's not even being produced

Not sure why people don't like hbm, I challenge anyone to know what memory architecture a graphics card is using from playing a game on it alone. Just because it couldn't overclock doesn't make it an inferior choice.

Being a budget gamer I don't even have enough pixels to justify more than 4GB of VRAM, and HBM is pretty darn good, so I'm pretty sure than I'm gonna get a Polaris card.
