AMD reportedly moves forward the RX Vega 56's review embargo

Gamers Nexus has since taken down their article on this subject. There can be many reasons for this.

Gamers Nexus broke Threadripper's NDA and they insinuated that they have not received a Vega sample as punishment. They word this as working in "defiance" against AMD's "expressed favouritism" after some people were able to post Threadripper data.

The simple thing is that Gamers Nexus broke NDA in a way that can only be seen as a way to boost their traffic as PC enthusiasts searched for every bit of early Threadripper data that they could find. They willingly broke embargo.

It is likely that Gamers Nexus has removed their article in an attempting to mend their relationship with AMD. Either that or some of their articles content was false.

I'm not holding out much hope. I think Vega is gonna be sort of a flop. Can't hate on them too much tho if it is. Both Ryzen and Threadripper have been pretty big successes and given Intel some much needed competition. It was just a year ago that you couldn't throw a rock without hitting 5 people that were predicting AMD would soon be bankrupt. Whether Vega is a dud or not, AMD has done a pretty good job of righting the ship. Maybe next generation they'll get their GPU lineup up to par as well.

Yeah I have to agree. IMO Vega flopped a long time ago. Hopefully it will sell in droves to the miners, and drop Nvidia prices a little. That way it will work out doing some good for every one :)

The big issue here is £200 more than a 1080 for 1080 performance or worse. Don't forget your large pinch of sodium chloride though.

I don't like that guy. He's clumsy, messy and it annoys me. I worked with a guy like him. Everything you touched or leaned on was covered in f*****g thermal paste !!

It seems he has not learned that you can not "gob in the eye" of your masters without paying a penalty. I don't dislike him because of it, but he will learn. The other day he did this proper ranting video slagging MSI off for putting bloatware on their laptops. The thing is, if any one has half a brain they would just delete it all or reinstall from scratch. I mean, who doesn't do that when they buy a laptop?

He will also learn that ignoring NDA gets you in big legal trouble. Funny how he's happy to slag AMD off but shat himself when their lawyers got in touch.. I dunno man...

He's accepted his role, he needs to realise he is a salesman, not a voice for the masses. They get absolutely nowhere.

It also angered me when he drew all over the special Threadripper chip AMD gave him. Seriously, that proper, proper narked me. Disrespectful t**t !

I totaly disagree with you on this. I think he makes sone mistakes, but dont we all?? GN makes some very solid videos with some great testing he does.

I agree with Governour. He's done some stupid things, but I definitely consider Gamers Nexus to be one of the more thorough places for reviews. I don't particularly like his opinion pieces, but his analysis is often sound.

I'll disagree with you there on some points, Gamers Nexus does do good work, though that does not mean that they don't get it wrong sometimes. Same applies to everyone really.

Yes, he needs to learn his place and that he cannot break embargo, regardless of his reasoning, but that does not mean that he needs to become a "salesman".

Review embargos are not quite as legally sound as many think, as often the punishment is the lack of future product samples and not any form of legal action. Review embargos are often as legally binding as a verbal agreement, it is not regal repercussions but the promise of future business that keeps both parties in check. IE, reviewers play on the timescale of manufacturers and give fair reviews, reviewer then gets future product samples and early info.

There is a reason why certain YouTube channels don't get many samples, Crit TV being an example, showing exactly why their "Alex Jones of the PC world" style does not yield them many early samples.

Also the drawing on a "fake" "display only" chip is not a big deal. It was useful for showcasing the problems with cooling Threadripper (where each die is located ETC) and it was easily cleaned off afterwards.

you're upset someone drew on a chip... https://youtu.be/3quuXBC9YMA?t=70

Gamers nexus make great in depth reviews no other youtubes do and certainly cant be bought with free stuff like titans or vega, much respect.

Just because they make "great in depth reviews" doesn't mean they cannot be bought. That's just fanboy thinking and very much wishful thinking. Everyone has a price. Even if you think you don't you do, whether it's monetary or not.

Exactly. It's your job. And with the world the way it is you have to kiss ass most of the time.

If you don't you end up like Stuart Campbell.

I REALLY hope AMD do well with Vega, The prices NEED to be in check or people who were in the market for a GPU will simply be talked into getting an Nvidia GPU due to Nvidia having a large market mindshare.

I was honestly taken aback at how many people nearly had nervous breakdowns when Steve drew on the IHS to visualize the die placement, Which was easily cleaned off afterwards, It was actually sad to see so many adults behave in such a manner.

AMD went to great trouble and time to have those dies etched and present reviewers with a gift.

If I gave you a gift and you drew all over it I would be proper p1553d. Trust me.

He could have easily made a slide that popped up and showed everyone instead of drawing on it. No it isn't going to hurt the thing, but it was a gift, an expensive one, that he kinda just didn't care about. I didn't watch the video, but i've heard about it enough already.

Who exactly? Tried googling after it, but didn't pop up anything related unfortunately.

BTW before this all gets out of hand.

These guys seem to think they are like, I dunno, famous or something? at the end of the day they are just techies the same as us. I don't quite get the whole "I wanna be a Youtube star !" thing. Call me old fashioned but I think some one who is famous needs to be talented, or, have some sort of star quality.

Seriously, the way they talk among themselves it's like they think they are royalty or something. They're not. They are just tech enthusiasts and there are a million more like them. They don't do anything special and they don't have any particular talents other than the understanding of computers and how they work, which is almost a given these days so long as you don't have a potato for a brain.

You tell me the last time you saw a scathing review, where the "reviewer" had the balls to tell the truth and say "Wow, this Razer mouse (just an example calm ya batty) is actually plastic Chinese crap !".

That would be none of them. Not a single one. Vega is a dog's mess in a pretty dress, let's see how many of them actually have the balls to call it. I bet that would be none.

The letters and numbers are laser etched into the metal, A dry erase marker and then some iso isn't going to do the metal any damage, This is such a huge over reaction and a perfect example of todays "I'm offended" culture.

The comments in the video of Gamers Nexus video, It was like witnessing hormonal teens screaming, It was quite pathetic.
