AMD releases their Ryzen Threadripper 1900X CPU

And of course it leaves users room to grow down the line with (potentially) up to 32 cores in the future. 4.2Ghz XFR is very good.

The threadripper will be a thing of the past when the 8700k is released

Which I bet also will have at max 30% performance increase from their last gen, that is if Intel felt like being a bit generous to their customers, rather than letting everyone bend over again. And also not being soldered, making cooling way less efficient, and coming with an price tag which you'd need to either be like or be friends with people like Bill Gates, Mark Suckerberg, Jeff Bezos etc. Or maybe just considering selling your kidney or maybe your kid to afford one lol.

??? These platforms are not really comparable, 6 cores VS 16 cores. It all depends on your use case.

Gaming, yes Coffee Lake will likely reign supreme, but the same can be said in an X299 comparison.

Threadripper is not for gamers, it is for those that know they need 16 cores for reasons other than epeen.

Nobody recommends Threadripper for gaming, but saying it is a thing of the past is just wrong on so many levels. It has driven Intel into a corner where they needed reduce prices and innovate with X299, which is a HUGE deal.

The PCI connectivity of Threadripper, especially on lower end models, is simply transformative for those with home workstation needs. It is far from a bad product, it just has few suitable use cases for consumers, like all 10+ core CPUs.

Well is it wrong that the 1900X tempts me as a gamer :D

Better value and performance will be found with Ryzen 7. Quad-channel memory isn't needed and the multi-die architecture will add some latency which will harm gaming performance.

Just get a Ryzen 7 and overclock it, unless you need to use 64 PCIe lanes for some reason.

I would be tempted to get a threadripper but for gaming alone then it will not be worth it to my 5820k. Except for productivity. Even for that then i can still be ok with the 5820k @4.5

for intel fanboys maybe... happy to pay intel for a rebranded Z270. ROTFL.
and sure gamer kiddies who do nothing more than game with a PC will be better served with a 8700k.

i for one will be happy with a mainboard that disables not slot X and feature Y when i use feature Z.

i hate when using a M.2 disables SATA ports etc.
and no... i can´t just buy bigger HDD´s.

in my threadripper system i already have 4x8TB + sata SSD + optical drive.

i need as much local storage as i can get. 6-8 SATA ports + 2-3x M.2 slots are not wasted on me.

and while using 4x16GB at the moment it is good to have the option to increase that to 8x16gb ram. :)

my ryzen 7 experience was overall so positiv that i build a threadripper system as my main system.
in january i did not think i will switch to AMD this year, i was eagerly waiting for x299.
