Its a shame as they weren't nearly as bad as several other review sites. They only really lost their chance to get AMD's cards because of that video and one of their writers is incredibly anti AMD.
Its a manufacturer released benchmark set, when was that ever an accurate result?
The guy is utterly fair so why are AMD unhappy? He is clearly and fairly laying out why their business model at the moment is pretty ridiculous (rebranding a 4 year old chip or toaster chips) and obviously AMD are worried about this as it is a legitimate complaint. Banning the press from a room with (probably) a working Fiji chip after months of delays is not only going to annoy them, but set off alarms bells - if the product is so good why are they not showing it off? Why are they not building up the hype like they did with the 295x2 over months? The probable reason is because it isn't that good and they know the press (some of whom are highly technically minded) will point this out and make people aware, and in turn cripple sales. Also renaming old chips and not saying they are rebrands is pretty deplorable and scandalous.
Also the guy wants Fiji to do well, but just says that it doesn't look like it.

The guy is an utter bell-end . How can you talk down about something before you even know what it is. If he said that NOW as part of a review AFTER being disappointed with the price/performance then that would be completely fair. Saying it off the back of speculation is just an asshat move and I wouldn't send KG any samples either. Fair play to AMD IMO.
JR
 deplorable and scandalous.
Was that in reference to nVidia or AMD? <<sarcasm
Alright so if any company makes such a big mistake (that is of course assuming it was a mistake) they should just tell the consumers to go f*** themselves and call them a bunch of ungrateful Fa*****? Sound right to me, after all its not like they could have given out some game keys or something.
All nVidia does is just sacrifice features to allow for more gaming performance. Fermi to Kepler then to Maxwell. Oh wait, how old is Fermi? Honestly I cant remember nor can be bothered searching. If you want to say that those features were useless s in the first place so it is a good thing they were sacrificed, well then I have nothing to say to that.
Also the guy in the video looked as if he was depressed, drinking or high. Not to mention pissed off at something and quite unprofessional.
The guy is a complete joke, even the 390x can compete with the 980 (albeit without the 980 being OC'd heavily) Yet hes going around spewing nonsense like how AMD cant compete with nVidia. We already saw what Tonga could achieve. Did I mention how he wants the Fiji chip to not only beat the 980 in performance but also consume less power? He must be praying real hard to his god, or perhaps starting at his bank account. Who knows.
Almost burst out laughing when the guy said " oh hang on a minute, we've been conned"
Should literally get a transcript of his video so that I can highlight all the crap instead of writing a long post. Cause there is just too much.
I watched the video last night. What a waste of time.
Whilst he may have a couple of worthwhile points they are soon drowned in his accusations. Why it bothers him so much is a mystery, as only the truly stupid would not look into what they're buying first and realise they're old cards with a new badge.
It sucks but that's life. He should have just kept quiet and used his reviews to point out the facts without ranting and looking like a cock.
AMD getan awful, awful lot of bad press that IMO is just Nvidia fanboys pretending to like them whilst secretly getting in as many digs as they can. So yeah, AMD can't compete with the fastest Intel CPUs but they make decent budget stuff good for people who can't afford to drop nearly a grand on just a CPU.
Serves him right, the douche.
no one has given any examples of Nvidia being d**** besides the 970 mess which was explained and blown way out of proportion (I Luv this card! OMGOSH return! Not said wut was on box...yet same performance that I just said that I luved!! *facepalm).
Haha, true, but when has Nvidia rebranded 4 year old chips?
The issue isn't that the card didn't perform as it should, it was about the lying.
The low end stuff. The gt 730 is a gt 430. IT would explain why no one should really buy a low end Nvidia card. AMD rebranding the lower end stuff isn't the end of the world either. AMD seem to have really done a lot with drivers to improve the performance. Hence why the 390X is performing inbetweeen the 970 and 980 (the 8GB version is beating the 980 elsewhere too). AMD are carving out bits between the nVidia cards but aiming prices at the lower end card.
True, but it could have been a genuine mistake as they said.
Possibly, though if the drivers are the reason for the performance increase, then surely the 290X 8GBs version should be able to run at that performance as it is the same card. Also AMD are renowned for having bad drivers so I would be surprised if they had achieved this rather than it just being some dodgy benchmarks. It is possible, but I would go with Occam's razor on this one and say it's the latter.
If you're going to go with bad drivers, I'll go with Nvidia lying to cover their backs. Simplest answer as you say.
I own both Nvidia and AMD cards and while crossfire isn't as good as sli, single cards are both equal in terms of issues. Bad drivers is a tired cliché when it comes to talking about single cards. Excluding drivers built for reviewing it seems.
Nvidia have been sneeky (see the whole thing with 3dmark03 and the 5900 'ultra) before.
The 290X 8GB and the 390X 8gb are basically the same - we tested the MSI version though and thats an all new card - ie: new pcb and cooler.
290X 8GB is the 390X 8GB no discussion there. SOme companies may just chnage the number on the box but MSI have gone to town to try and make their 390X the best they possibly could and OMG does it show.

You should try the 290(x) cards in CF, they are quite lovely now. Shame your experience was ruined by AMDs past.
