AMD R9 390X VS GTX 980 Ti Performance Leak

Graphs are indeed probably fake. The 4k performance is out of the spot. Now, about the vram, dont forgetcthe fact that amd will use hbm with much higher bandwidth, which coupled with some sort of smart compressing algorithm of some sort might actually result in the card being a le to run at 4k or qhd with less vram. I dunno, possiblities are enendless, and its fini so its new. Poser consumption is improved for amd compared to thd previous models, so itsdefinately better. Anyway, it all goes down to computex.

4gb of memory is 4gb of memory whether it comes as GDDR5 or HBM it will hold the same amount of data. You won't be able to squeeze anymore in there.

I don't know that much about HBM but I am pretty sure it won't use any compression as this actually reduces performance and is best avoided if not needed. Remember to compress something takes time and resources. HBM has so much bandwidth that it makes it pointless to even think about using compression.

I would not get too excited about getting loads of extra performance with HBM either as the GPU will not be fast enough to take advantage of the extra bandwidth available with HBM. A good example of this are my 4 TXs in SLI pushing out massive fps, even that is not enough to really tax old fashioned GDDR5. With 4 way SLI the memory gets a massive workout as all 4 cards have to mirror each other in VRAM.

Am I going to buy a 390X - absolutely.:)

well although I agree with you the speed will matter. on 2560x1440 I only see max gpu memory usage on my 3GB memory r9 280x crowssfire setup in a few games so the memory bandwidth increase will help but I guess with dx12 we might see more vram usage and if we all right and developers start using the new feature in dx12 where they combine memory for multiple cards then I might just see how crossfire 8gb and HDM can be useful.

I'm still excited to see the new cards. I really hope it will beat out the titan x and 980ti but I'm sure if nvidia release the 980ti after the r9 390x then it will be faster for sure cause why would they release something slower than r9 390x but then amd might counter it with r9 395x2. I can imagine how beast that card might be if all this is true.

Speed on it's own does very little if your GPU is trying to produce a frame that needs 4gb and you only have 3gb available it does not matter how fast the memory is, you will still hit the VRAM wall.

The other thing that I think we should be wary of in the future is if Devs find an easy way to stack memory from multiple cards this could be unfortunate for single card users if we start to see games that need 9gb or 10gb, easy for 2 or 3 cards but very difficult for a single card.

390X specs and performance is to be announced at E3 right?

For a long time I have wanted AMD to come out with something spectacular, cant wait. Anyway, aren't Chiphell known to be close to correct on their leaks?

Well Tom already said some things in those graphs are spot on and considering he has inside info this should be pretty exciting :)

Yep, and I recall Chiphell being correct about the original Titan, Titan black and also Intel devils canyon.

If those graphs are spot on though and AMD do their usual charging i.e a lot lower than Nvidia, £600 has been the "Leaked" price on the 390X, Nvidia are going to have to seriously lower prices on their TX as no one in their right mind is going to pay nigh on £300 more for 4GB extra memory.

Again just basing this on the current "Leaks".

Most of those graphs are probably spot on, unfortunately the bits we are interested in are far from spot on.:D

One thing I an sure about is the 980ti or whatever it is called will not be able to run on 347.XX drivers lol.
