Radeon RE-Brand

It's no surprise that AMD have re-branded the old cards and I'm actually loving this new "Mostly black with some red and silver" and also the rubberised shroud look, But! and this is a big but, why the bloody hell have they stuck with the ancient blower fan that has been on cards dating back to the neolithic times. Am I right in saying then that there is only going to be one actual new card "The Fury" or am I missing something?

Regards

Nope, you're bang on the money. Everything up to the 390X is the same old 2XX card, with a new cooler.

Well done, AMD.

No one knows for sure (100%).. all there is to go on is "leaked" images, deconstructed driver code and speculation. Knowing AMD this is possibly all just marketing spoof to get tongues wagging.

So saying yes to anything would be just wrong.

I think it would be very, very charitable to think all the bad news being leaked is just an elaborate hoax because it is bad press, not good press - leaked benchmarks of some super chip would make a lot more sense.

But then as Wraith says, how can we know for 100% certainty?... "Leaked" benchmarks etc, they are leaked. Doesn't mean they are valid or the ones that will be launched, is it?.

Looks slightly different to their old blower cooler to me. Does look quite nice though.

It's been almost 2 years since AMD released the 290X... rehashing old cards with new labels would be counter productive, throwing a few more GB at an old card and giving it a new name (again) isn't very productive especially when they are recovering financially from the butt kicking they've had over the last few years. They know full well "leaks" and gossip make for good publicity.

The 2 things we know for certain and AMD have validated this info:

1. New Code Names
2. HBM

They are holding Facts close to there wallets.

I do like the look of it, I just hope it has better performance.

The ref cooler was OK normally, its just utter pants for the 290/290x. The 270 wasn't a hard card to cool so you'd think it would be ok..

I'm more interested in the X version. I'd wonder if this will be the 270X 4gb or ideally, something new.

Why the hell would you rebrand a 3 year old chipset that has such little support? Are they trying to make sure they go bankrupt?

What you are not taking from this move by AMD is it's not a hardware issue its the software dude "see's light"

By not moving onto GCN 1.3, or at the very least 1.2, they lose the ability for full hardware DX12.1 support(that's the highest "tier" DX12 apparently) and can only get the DX12.0 through drivers. They also lose Freesync, Truaudio, LiquidVR(potentially), so I'm rather unsure if anything is true. That would be suicide tbh, they have been more quiet about upcoming cards than before which is strange. Normally by this time we pretty much have all the info... seeing as it's 6 days away from Launch and all we still have is rumors and unconfirmed leaks with no comment from AMD, strikes as odd indeed.

^Plus one for all of this ;) Also something else that's been odd, AMD Roy has been quiet the whole NDA period, highly unlike him.

It is very odd indeed. All these negative rumours of rebrands and rehashs must be making people decide to go to the green side for their next graphics card.

I really don't know why I'm holding out, waiting for AMD to bring this fabled Fury to the market. Even more bemusing is why AMD haven't released positive, tantalising evidence on this "Titan killer". They must be losing sales every day.

Perhaps they are waiting for the dust to settle on the 980ti launch before releasing Fury on the world because they believe that it will be such an epic card that the pc market will remember when Nvidia was handed it's ass. Perhaps banking on enthusiasts selling their 980Ti's to get a bit of Fury, thus diluting the price of Nvidia's stock.

Who knows the script but AMD themselves.

Ya exactly! It's just very strange.. for all we know AMD could surprise the whole world with a full range of HBM cards! Post an article about it and you couldn't say it was wrong because AMD won't comment on it^_^
That's how odd it is to me. If they believe they can outdue Nvidia and want a closed lip, then I won't stop them. Just better be good
