AMD Phenom Launch Schedule & Roadmap

Hmmm...

Not looking too great in my eyes.

From what I've read AMD will need to be at 3ghz to beat the C2Ds, and then go even higher to take the lead.

Their either being very conservative by announcing the max released speed of about 2.6ghz, or the silicon just can't go to 3ghz stably constantly which would be gutting :(

Especially as the next-gen Intel, as long as it is better than C2D, will be even faster...

Adding to that, why not add in DDR3 support to Phenom? Having it tied to DDR2 seems a bit stupid, if Deneb is delayed or DDR3 takes off faster than DDR2 its not going to be pretty :(

Have to feel a little sorry for AMD at the moment.

Everything seems to be going wrong for them...

But Im sure they have something that will put the back on top! :)

We better hope so :D

Then again, this partnership with a new fab can only be a good thing (fingers crossed). Maybe they'll be able to move to a smaller die quicker...

H2 2008 b4 any thoughts of DDR3.. >.<

Great info guyz, and I look forward to some more, but atm the swing-o-meter isn`t waving much.

According to all the lame thigns ive heard about DDR3 im quite happy that the new Phenom processors might be DDR2. Means i could snag some good DDR2 for cheap and run an AM2 system for some time then catch the Phenom bandwagon.

what they need to do, is just keep on with the current stuff, but just make it more and more energy efficient, and then make them a lil faster, eventually you'll get an amd pc, that may be a bit slow, but uses virtually no power :D

Look at the watts they are using, they are doing just that.

i meant get somthing like a 2 GHz sempron running off summet crazy like 12W

if they tried, it could be done, ...they need to move to 45nm or even smaller sooner.....then they can give intel a right kick up the ass

I'm hoping they leak some early phenom benches, otherwise Penryn will be entertaining me this fall.

If AMD doesn't offer anything better than the current C2D performance, I'll be waiting for Nehalem before I upgrade next. Penryn is purely a step-down in node size...where-as Nehalem is 45nm on a completely new architecture.

Even though I currently own a C2D I would much rather AMD were back on top of the gaming market so I could move back over as I am bit of an AMD fanboy :p

Not from what I've read. It has a few IPC improvements, and has an expanded cache.

...in preparation for the new architecture :) Nehalem is reputed to be able to take us to 8 and 16 cores...admittedly there will be some improvements to allow this to happen (reduced power consumption etc), but Penryn in its simplest form will be the move from 65nm to 45nm.
