AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE Overclock (noob)

So I just built a new system with the 955 and the ASUS Crosshair IV Forumla Mobo. I got the bus up to 237MHz with a 18 times multiplier running at 4.3GHz. This was maxing out at 56C running Prime 95. I decided to back the overclock of reducing the bus to 227 to give me a 4GHz overclock. Thing is... its only running two degrees cooler now! Is it worth/safe to just ramp it up to 4.3GHz again? Running at 1.45 Volts, although it's reading 1.464v in CPU-Z.

Thanks guys!

When it comes to temperatures, the voltage is as important if not more important than the actual overclock. When you reduced the bus speeds did you also drop down the voltage? Also CPUZ and BIOs aren't perfectly accurate. If you want to find out the actual voltage you should probably use the voltage probes that come with the Crosshair and use a multimeter.

Also have you benched the performance of the CPU at those speeds, see if the gains are actually noticeable.

if you didnt need to change the voltages to get from 4.0 to 4.3 and the difference was only two degrees, then I personally would keep it at 4.3

As long as your temps dont get dangerously high, then there is no point worrying about a two degrees.

How long did those temperatures last for? Coz they like to sneakily go up when you're not looking, so i'd say you need at least 24h hours usage before you can rely on it staying a certain temp. Don't wanna push to the max, leave rig on, go to get some lunch or whatever then come back and find a pile of slag on your desk
