AMD Marketing Guru Darren McPhee joins Intel's Discrete Graphics Team

Those ads were terrible, Intel are in trouble XD

To me, they are the type of bad that is soo bad it comes back and becomes good again.

TBH, AMD's early GCN cards aged very well, and the "Never Settle" game bundle had myself and a lot of friends go with AMD in that generation. Remember the HD 7870 Tahiti LE?

I still use a HD7870 XT/Tahiti LE as my main card (Via an expresscard eGPU setup). Still works great at 1080p in modern titles like Horizon 4 & BF1. Not really seen a reason to upgrade yet for the gaming I usually do(Though I broke the cooler a little while ago and installed a fairly beefy aftermarket one so it's at 1200Mhz).

Two of my best mates are rocking those same graphics cards. As I have said before, those early GCN graphics cards have aged very well.

One of my friends broke his cooler as well, so he is also using an aftermarket air cooler.

That was a very good generation. The Never Settle bundles are hands down the best bundles we have probably ever had or at least in the past 10 years(to my knowledge)

That and then Hawaii up until Nvidias next cards was the last time they both were truly competitive. Good times.

Really it was the mining craze following that generation that tanked the 200-series refresh's value proposition compared to NVidia's 700-series, and I'd say it was the mining crazy shortly following the 400-series launch that impacted AMD competitiveness this time around(Unless you mean top-end performance).
