AMD MANTLE DELAYED - Battlefield 4 Strikes Again.

As many of you are well aware Battlefield 4 is still in a terrible state for many users, despite the constant effort to fix the game, we can confirm AMD Mantle is pushed back one month to January 2013

It has been announced that AMD's Mantle Technology has been pushed into January 2014, with no firm launch date given. So no Mantle patch is coming tomorrow for those interested gamers out there.

After much consideration, the decision was made to delay the Mantle patch for Battlefield 4. AMD continues to support DICE on the public introduction of Mantle, and we are tremendously excited about the coming release for Battlefield 4! We are now targeting a January release and will have more information to share in the New Year. – AMD PR

While it is annoying that Mantle has been delayed, I cannot say it is in any way surprising.

It is likely that this delay has been made due to EA's decision to halt all Battlefield 4 development in favor of the required bug fixing.

Lets hope this patch is released next month and hope that it has not hindered the development of any other upcoming mantle enabled games, I personally am looking forward to the upcoming Thief title.

What do you guys think of this situation? Are any of you disappointed by this or happy EA are working on fixing the game rather than adding new features? Please comment below.

I've given up on BF4 for the time being. I'll try it in a week or 2 and see what it's like. I'm more interested in seeing what benefits mantle brings.

Yeah, I think DICE should concentrate on fixing and balancing BF$ before they even think about Mantle. EA aren't the only ones going to be using it, if Thief is this first title we see it on then i'm ok with it.

To be honest i'd rather Square Enix get the recognition for the first title with Mantle support than EA and BF4 anyway.

Funny, i haven't run into a single issue playing BF4 i must be lucky :D.
I just wish companies released games when they're ready so this poop wouldn't happen.

I got a free copy of BF4 with my GPU and after maybe 2 days of non-stop crashes and battlelog issues I just gave up on it :/

Also seemed much smaller map-size than BF3, playing any rush map almost felt like playing cod :/

Patching in Mantle won't yield any amazing results compared to it natively supporting it and using it from the start... Mantle will be a trial run for Dice with BF4.

Any well designed engine will have abstract components detached from the lower level APIs. They can simply swap out the D3D renderer for the Mantle one. In theory no extra work should be required.

I wonder if Mantle will actually bring an fps increase or the ability to turn up all settings to max and have 60fps, I have a feeling though it will just be, "Here's Mantle, Here's another 5fps" ^_^

All it really does that i know of is allow the game engine to comminucate more with the CPU(giving it more batch calls) than the driver allowing better performance. Drivers handle alot of the tasks game engines send out and drivers are hit and miss and unpredictable. Making the CPU do it is much more predictable. So it ends up with better performance and a great chance of increased visuals.

I'm probably wrong on a few things but thats what i know of so far.

TBH if they wait for BF4 to be fixed before they release Mantle for it at the rate they are going we will never see Mantle on BF4 as this would have to be the worst release of BF yet....still I really wish that they do get it right though as this version of BF has the most going for it out of all the releases to date IMO.
Then if they get it right the next BF release should be 2152 so we get our Titan mode and podding back again man I miss that sigh.

Mantle basically eliminates the driver thread. The driver ultimately reduces control and produces CPU stalls. The more the game programmers have control of the more they can optimise the games architecture.

Tom's Hardware did an AMA with AMD a while back and one of the questions put to them was how much of a performance increase Mantle would bring. Whoever answered it said it was going to be well more than 5%.

I can see why that would be the case, developing a whole API is a massive and expensive undertaking, they wouldn't do it for just 5fps, as it wouldn't justify the R&D spend. Also I'd say AMD didn't do it without commitment from developers either. EA is fully on board, and we'll probably see a lot more titles pledging support for it in the future.

But then again, if the end result is 100fps vs 300fps, does it matter? ^_^

around 5:20+

also NFS is EA's game.

I have seen the video before mate, i fail what you mean by it.

Here TotalBiscuit has messed with game settings to allow framerates above 30FPS which, in this case, broke the game by increasing game speed with the framerate and messing with the game's physics.

I understand that in this case the increased framerate in this badly designed game broke it, but do you think this is the case for all games or something?

I fail to see how this problem ,which is isolated to pretty much only this game, is relevant to AMD Mantle or Battlefield 4 apart from it being an EA title which was built on frostbite?

*EDIT* Never mind, i assume you posted the video as a joke about high framerates and i read it the wrong way. I'm kinda in a bad mood ATM so I apologize if i caused any offense.
