AMD Kaveri

That was because you were xfiring a VLIW4 GPU with a VLIW5 GPU. Now its a GCN on an APU and GCN discrete GPU. So drivers will help that problem and any benefits gained by Mantle will carry over to the APU as well and that may help performance a lot.

The new A10-7850k looks like a nice upgrade, although I'm not sure it's worth the price premium.

The A8-7600 on the other hand looks very nice for a HTPC or Steambox particularly at 45W. I think this is the APU that will be bound for my Gigabyte mini-ITX FM2+ board. ^_^

The 7850k Is stupidly over priced. While the GPU on it (equivilent to a 7750)does run Battlefield surprisingly well its still too pricy. just wait for the non gpu versions. They'll OC very well and are much, much cheaper for the same processing power.

Was very surprised with the price in all honesty, it seems like the premium htpc CPU/GPU combo. Not impressed or disappointed with this chip, but i just value raw CPU power more.

Don't know whether it would pay off to see an 8 core version without the GPU, but again it's interesting to see the possibilities with the GPU, only time will tell in this situation.

At this point I'm thinking amd will only compete at the low-mid end of the spectrum leaving intel a clear shot at everyone's wallets!

Its been like this for a while though :l. Hopefully software improvements will help the FX processors become better (i.e better core usage), making intel lower prices and everyone happy. :D

It really has, given AMD even pitched the FX-8350 against the i5-3570k, not the i7 or hex-cores like the i7-3930k.

We might see an Excavator based FX chip, or maybe hex core APU, but I don't know how likely either are. I'd say at this stage, it'll be after Excavator before we see a new true high-performance chip from AMD. Although, yet at the same time, there is this, so there's hope yet.

Although I think I know myself, my next big upgrade will probably be Intel. It'll be a bit of a shock to the system after being an AMD'er for the better part of a decade now, except for a Laptop with an Intel T7500 and brief stint with a Q9450 back in 2008/2009. ^_^

My interest is how it is going to do in games like Shogun 2, Rome 2, and Civ V with the onboard or a dedicated graphics card. Not a lot of information on that yet. Wouldn't mind turning one into my plans for a mini-ITX HTPC/Strategy Gaming system. Oh well, I have to June to plan it out anyway. Just keep wishing AMD would get their act together and give Intel some competition on the gaming side of things.

What about hsa? That's set to be released along with me with next Cc release.

Not well at any higher settings or resolution. Those games really suck up gpu and cpu power with all those units on display.

If you did play those games the res/shadows/unit size would be the top 3 performance settings you would need to mess with for the max performance.

Also on regarding OC'ing these APUs.

They won't overclock well because of the 28nm design. Sure they moved from 32nm but the 32nm lithography was very small in design while the new 28nm is a big block design--meaning just barely smaller. So the way it's set up on die won't be stable at high clocks(at least on CPU side afaik) hence why the clocks compared to richland were much lower.
