AMD is reportedly achieving great yields on their Zen 2 CPU dies

Nice !

Their top end 16c/32t option will be a day 1 purchase for me.

I will be happy with the 3700X if the rumours are true. Hell, if the rumours are true across the board then Intel is going to be in trouble if they don't release something to counter the Zen 2 launch lineup at a competitive price point.

I mean it's work smarter not harder. That's the approach they took with Zen. Despite the few drawbacks, like latency, it's still a far better solution and even it outright performance is a must you can still get two Zen based CPUs for one Intel CPU in the data market. Which is a big bonus.

I'm looking forward to these and they'll probably be a day 1 buy for me as well. Not that I need it cause my humble little 1600x is working just fine.

I doubt I'll spring for a 16 core tho as mine is purely a gaming rig.

That's what I keep trying to tell myself: "My R5 1600 is fine. I don't need an upgrade. Save that money for a new monitor."

I don't know if my willpower will hold out though.

I bought Ryzen gen 1, I bought gen 2, and I will buy gen 3. Even though I don't use the cores at all, but I just like these CPUs and flat out refuse to buy Intel, ever again.

I guess this means there will still be a reasonable amount of 4core die bins but I have a feeling they might all be going to Epyc2 for high bandwidth "low" core count models, and presumably any bin lower than that too, in theory even bins with only one core per CCX working(Which would be very rare from those numbers) could be used for a high clocked 16-core Epyc2 part with full L2 cache(I don't think they'd use that config for Threadripper 16c if that comes since workstation/gaming workloads are more sensitive to inter core latency, maybe 4x4c dies). I think that's how they managed to get like >97% usability out of Zen1's Zeppelin dies.

Patiently waiting, but it's killing me! I have my eyes on the 3700X. Hopefully good ITX boards will be available at launch so I don't have to wait even longer. Nice to see the yields are showing promising results. I'm an AMD fan at heart, but have been on Intel for what seems like forever.

Put the money away and pretend it doesn't exist, It's what I've been doing for a while now just incase something comes out that I genuinely want.

This genuinely tickled me ^_^

It doesnt exist because you already put the money away in some E-tailers bank account :D !

I am rocking a 2700x coming from a 8700k. I want so bad the 16c/32t but this time around I guess I have to leave the ITX system for ATX to cool this bad boy properly with a custom loop.

Mines just removing the 2700X and dropping in the 16 core Zen 2 whenever that comes out so not really a new build for me ^_^
You'll buy a new board. So will I. There will be some improvement or feature on the new boards that we will want. Bring on the Crosshair 8! I already have 6 and 7, so what the heck, LOL! :D
