AMD has revealed that they are "putting the finishing touches on the 300 series" to an annoyed purchaser of the falsely advertised GTX 970.

It certainly does tie in with the leaked performance reports when you consider the timing.
If those charts are anything to go by not only is it more powerful than the 980, but Nvidia will really have to pump out the specs on their next card to stay ahead.

What I will be impressed with if true is that this card is rumored to be 300W while maintaining a mere 73C temp at load. This could certainly pull me away from Nvidia once the waterblocks are released.

Hmmm although I despise Nvidia at the moment Im still not a great fan of AMD having had bad experiences in the past.

Now Ebuyer have agreed to refund me for my 970's Once they are back and refunded I need to make a decision on what to buy with all that money.

Maybe you jumped on the refund wagon a little too soon? Perhaps you would have been better waiting just a little longer and holding out for something much better. Obviously its one of those "what if" moments but AMD are now at a point where no one can rightly say "I used to have bad experiences in the past". Their cards are great performers now. And we need them to be, to stop Nvidia having the monopoly on the market.

I previously had a Sapphire R9 290X TriX and really didnt get on with it, I found it noisy hot and the drivers a bit sub par so I swapped out for an EVGA 780ti SC.

I would love to see them release a card that actually challenges nvidia in temp's and power efficiency with great performance

As much as the R9 290 is a fast and cheap card, unless you had the sapphire cards, it was a leaf blower under load. Hopefully the 390 won't be as in this day and age there really isn't a need to have any more case dust busters.

ah ok. So it wasn't a performance issue you didn't agree with. Fair enough.

From the charts I saw this card is not going to challenge Nvidias power efficiency but it certainly could on temperature. Then again, if it was referring to the hybrid cooler and using water, this temp reading could skew the genuine result.

I'm excited anyway. Always great to read about new cards

I've move to an MSI R9 290X, got it as a refurb from Ebuyer for 230, so far I have no regrets.

I played Dying light and there is no gameplay differences, but at least now I can use the highest texture settings without slowdown and flickering

Performance wise I found the 290x only a fraction slower than my 780ti.

I think AMD have got a lot better with their drivers but Nvidia still hold the title for driver support in my eyes.

The only thing that makes me consider going AMD is the current gen of consoles are all using AMD architecture which would in theory mean that ported titles should perform better and less glitchy on the AMD platform.

The 290x is as fast/faster as the 780Ti now (and as such on par with the 970 most of the time) If you want the quietest, coolest running (and best OC potential) you probably should look at MSI's 290x Lightning. Excellent cards.

If it is anything like the 7970 was, the drivers will really keep on improving performance.

Actually Nvidias drivers have been pretty poor lately.... Frankly AMD's beta drivers have been quite good. Cannot say the same for some of their so called official ones though.

The 290x is also pretty much on par with the 780ti. The tri-x that you have is one of the best, I do not know why you had high temps and noise. Never got those issues with mine. Perhaps faulty card?

Im a bit of a quiet pc freak and I like to overclock my cards. I know thats not a great combination but I found my 780ti to be quieter and cooler when heavily overclocked.

My 970's are great cards to be honest and clock at 1550/7600 under 80 degrees and are barely audible which is what temps me to stay with Maxwell and grab a pair of 980's.

If it wasn't for this whole memory and specs issue I would keep my 970's so Im using this opportunity to upgrade

If the benchmarks that were "Leaked" are true then Nvidia seriously need to for once not charge the earth for their flagship non Titan card and also need to outperform the AMD 3xx series in raw performance, Temps and power draw.

Honestly never had a driver problem at all on either AMD or Nvidia going back 10 years now, I'd love to know what people do that causes so many problems ^_^

As you say, IF those charts were true then Nvidias upcoming flagship has alot of work to do performance and price wise.

Indeed but even if these charts are true and Nvidia brings a card out that outperforms the 3xx series even ever so slightly they will still be ludicrously priced, Because, Nvidia.

It'll be ~5% faster than the 390x but cost £1000 which will apparently be worth it because of the power draw.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about power draw? If people are so worried about their electricity bill then perhaps its time to think about not spending £1000s on GPUs. Thermal performance is obviously important though. ;)

Power draw wasnt big until AMD started being able to compete with Nvidia properly ;) Fan boys always need something.
