Should be possible. They only lost about $187m(that's a lot considering they had about $800m in cash before that loss) last year in total so making that up with a new GPU launch should at least make about half that, and then an actual real CPU launch that has a lot of hype around it should be able to make them return a profit. Also helps that there upcoming APUs will be 14nm so in notebooks that should be a huge market they can tap into since they have done horribly there. If they don't make a profit, it'll be a slow and steady withdrawal until someone buys them out after they file for bankruptcy.

I hope the Zen CPU will be just as good as Intel's and it's Mobo will finally support PCI-E 3.0...

No reason to believe they can't beat Nvidia next year. While they havnt been able to get the upper hand the last couple of generations the margin hasn't been all that large which is impressive seeing as fury was such a radically different design. Zen on the other hand has a pretty big job to do even to get near Intel's offerings. It feels like this is will be a make or break year for AMD

They could definitely stand a chance with GPUs. They've been pretty competitive and nVidia have been resting on their laurels. All they really need to do is to continue to make reliable drivers and the eventual public perception of 'terrible housefires coupled with worse driver support' will go away. Personally they've been the choice for budget builds for some time.

I think public image is the biggest thing holding them back right now in regards to selling. Whenever you mention AMD to anyone outside of this forum(in my experience at least) they tend to just laugh and say they run as hot as the sun and drivers suck. It's been pretty consistent for a couple years, it's going to be a really hard uphill battle for them to change that image. I think under this new Radeon Graphics Group it should be possible.

Agreed it's all you hear and it's got to be detrimental to the company. It's not impossible though.

Look at Hyundai/LG (Goldstar)/Samsung or any Korean tech for that matter. They came onto the market (in Aus at least) in the mid/late 90s and were absolutely horrible. Poor quality. Tacky No performance. Throwaway cars and cheap video players.

Now they compete with Japaneses manufacturers and they are on par with or better than the Japanese on a lot of occasions. Especially with price. Of course the cycle has gone full circle and now the Chinese techs and car industry are doing the same to Korea.

Long story short. It's not impossible for AMD to rebrand reboot and retake a lot of their market share back.

It's not impossible but it sure won't be easy. It will take a couple years or if they can pull off with the new Crimson driver suite and really WOW!! everybody, along with having a really strong GPU/Zen launch then I think they will be able to turn peoples minds around. That's a lot of hope though and for a company severely limited in funds it's going to be interesting to see how they can achieve all that.

I don't see it, they lag behind nVidia, again. The green team had the driver ready for launch for Fallout 4, it'll take a month for AMD to do the same. That's just one aspect that they can't keep up with. And this is coming from a guy that bought a 9590 and a laptop with the 5750m. Hope they come around, but the hole they've dug is pretty deep.

Honestly don't know what you are on about mate. Fallout 4 is more of an NVidia game anyways. There is little to complain about AMDs drivers side at the moment, in fact they are doing great considering the circumstances and their hardware on the graphics side is no slouch either.

Not sure if you've noticed, however at the moment AMD is ahead in DX12 for their cards not to mention NVidia is worse than AMD in terms of power consumption at desktop at high refresh rates etc. Notebook GPUs, well that's a different story.

Just meant that nVidia seems to always provide more updates, I've had a lot of trouble running games properly, and I'm only running them at 1080p. Many times there's a huge difference after AMD finally release an updated driver with optimizations for that specific game. Might be just my imagination. Considering this, I do hope they get it right in the CPU department, but I don't see on the GPU side. My opinion.

I don't see why people think that every new game release needs a new graphics driver delivered on day 1. i'm playing with 2 year old AMD cards running Crossfire (so, hardly the most "stable" build) and it's run fine since the second it launched. 35 hours in and i've only run into 3 graphical bugs so far, and every one of them was fixed by quicksaving, exiting and relaunching.

AMD made a comeback in 2007 with the HD 3000 series and then their HD 4000 series was beloved by pretty much everyone. They can do it again. But they need to stop being the "good guy AMD" and do something shady like GameWorks for AMD.

I used to love my Radeon HD 4870! I upgraded to that from an Nvidia 8800 GTS at the time, it was a very nice performance leap.
