AMD / Intel Bundle

I'll be looking to upgrade my Mobo, CPU + Ram towards the end of May and I've looking at my options. Should have £100-£150 to spend. I've come across 2 bundle deals on ebuyer which seem good to me, but tbh I'm clueless with Dual core. These are the 2 I've seen:

INTEL and AMD

Now, my current 939 Opty is running at 2.45ghz. I'm hoping I'll see the difference on either of these due to slightly faster CPU speed and the dual coreness.

When it comes to RAM, I notice both boards have 2 DIMM slots, so I'm thinking as DDR2 is pretty cheap, it would be worth getting 2x2gb now so I wouldn't have to worry later on.

Can I have some opinions / experiences with these types of set up. Do you think I'll see more difference with the Intel (2.5 stock) or AMD (2.7 stock). And also, with air cooling and about £40/50 to spend on RAM, which would overclock more???

Those bundles don't offer massive savings, so I would get the CPU + motherboard you really wanted. If you are on a budget the Intel e5200 is a fantastic choice, it's very efficient if running at stock speeds, but can be overclocked massively (given the right mobo). Keep an eye out on Scan's today only page, they regularly have cpu/mobo's with reduced prices.

Yeah, I think I got my eye on the 5200 along with some Ram. It's just the right mobo, I've been happy with my MSI board since I got 1 so I may look at getting another.

Any recommendations of boards for around £40-£70?

I think something like a p43, (£70ish for a decent one), an e5200 (£55 ish) and 4GB ram (£40ish @ 1066MHz) would suit you very well. The e5200 can clock to 4GHz with minimal effort although you may need to beef up your cooling.

(Sorry if that's a bit over budget)

Get an E5200, I have one at the moment and I'm loving it! Overclocks VERY well.

In fact, we have compared it over on another forum and they are on par with an E8400 when overclocked!

Exactly what I was going to say. Sometimes you can get that 4Gb RAM pack for a tenner less. For a budget system it's going to be fantastic bang for your buck.

For a cooler the Akasa AK-965 and Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro are good and cheap.
