AMD Hawaii showcase

We won't see that "light up" feature that often since it's a reference card, but it could look pretty cool.

that reference design has a huge flaw. it's red. imagine that card in a rig themed in any color but red, it would just destroy the looks. nvidia does a better job at keeping it universal, i just wish the nvidia logo wouldn't light up green.

I wish I could play everything just from the performance of the integrated graphics. :D

its supposed to be $600 so that would be £371, do you think it will be that much or do you think they will just change the $ sign to a £ sign?

It looks like I stand corrected on the cross fire info with regards to these new cards too, as it turns out that they talk to each other thru the PCI-E lanes, should be an interesting concept and will be interesting to see if they perform better in cross fire using this method

That sounds like a pci-ex 3.0 only feature to me...

AMD leaving out AMD cpu users (due to AMD 'boards having 2.0)? Not surprised tbh... I hope there will be a way round it or that the next cpus they announce have pci 3.0 support.

Oh aye, Only guessing as I'd imagine they need SOME reason to move things forward on that front but I was just thinking out loud :P

Actually SuB you may be right as I have heard some others saying why is it only for gen 3 PCI-E maybe they will address that with a bios update for boards with 2.0

As far as I am aware the difference between pcie 2 and 3 aint noticable until you go trifire/trisli, anandtech did a write up about it a while ago the difference in frames was negligible

I think it will work on pci 2. Because it wouldn't be good for AMD to exclude all their existing cpus from the possibility of 290X crossfire. If it will have a performance hit on pci 2 is something we will have to wait and see.

Sadly for the UK we need to add 20% VAT to that figure that makes it around ~£450. They'll most likely round up to £500 since they can considering current reference nVidia 780 prices. However you're usually right they simply swap out the currency and laugh their way to the bank.

Here's a picture of the R9 280x with a new xfx cooler on it. Not going to lie it looks quite nice, shame it is from XFX.

I hate myself for liking the look of that card.
