Amd fx 9590

"The processor has a standard voltage of 1.5 volts and a hefty 220 W TDP"

AMD has lost the plot. They really need to get some new architectures out because this is just ridiculous, they are putting up a 220 Watt processor against 77 Watt processors and barely competing in performance. Twice the cores, more than double the power consumption and barely scraping by Intel's midrange. I mean this isn't even against X79 this is against Haswell on a consumer socket but AMD is claiming this is for workstations?

What planet are they on cause it isn't earth. I long for the days when AMD were on top, an A64 3500+ this is not. This isn't even an FX-55 class chip this is just terribad.

The thing is I really really want them to do well, we need competition I just don't understand why they can't get their arse in gear and releasing chips like these to OEM's just makes them a laughing stock.

This isn't meant as an Intel killer. This is a "boutique" or novelty chip. It's not meant as a mainstream processor. Everybody is freaking out and declaring AMD circling the drain because of it. Everybody relax and breath. It's just a "for the hell of it" item. Doesn't mean anything about the future of AMD.

i agree mate

Obviously. No one ever thought it was.

AMD were circling the drain long before this chip showed up. It all started when they span off their fabrication plants.

If AMD can successfully sell all these units at the prices they're asking then power to them. I personally wouldnt buy one at half the price. I'd settle with a 8350.
I am interested to see what these chips can do though with decent cooling.

Its a joke. 3930K is cheaper and smashes it to bits.

They wont be sending these out for review because its a comedy product.

Its just a speed binned 8350..... Shockingly bad idea IMHO

it's just designed to be the first product from either company to reach 5GHz, its a gimmick. designed to get some publicity.
Combined high TDP and ludicrous price with sub-par performance, only an idiot, a fanboy or a collector would buy one.

I know this was AMD saying "just because we can" but the price, the high TDP and given the fact it's not even that fast, why would anyone buy it?
Seriously, I can see why people buy Bulldozer and Piledriver, the price to performance is there. This CPU costs £800 but does not reflect any value whatsoever.

It's good to see AMD knocking out a high end chip capable of 5ghz stock, but making it ridiculously power hungry and expensive was the wrong way to go.
