AMD FX-9590 vs Intel Core i7-4770K

stupid website. "higher clock means higher performance. DAHURRRRRRRDURRRRRRRRRR"
it's way too early to compare anything, i want real benchmarks.
also why do they handle the igpu as an upside, that thing is not really what you want at those clock speeds.

yeah i want benchmarks too mate gonna wait, see how its priced an what the performance is like hopfully it will knock the fx8350's price down a bit (unlikely i know but i can hope)

so what i've read is that this is a £150 processor, overclocked to 5ghz.

I think we can all start charging £400ph for overclocking.
what a joke. don't think i'll ever go back to AMD after my move to ivy

I'd get the Haswell setup if you're willing to drop a hefty sum on a processor. The AMD setups like the FX-8350 or FX-6350 make more sense if you want to save money and dump it into a better GPU or something else.

You could say the same about Intel and their i7 "Extreme" CPUs.

I don't get all the antagonism towards the FX-9000 series, sure they're a waste of money, just like the i7 Extremes. But if people are silly enough to buy them then what of it?

sorta true until the sandybridge extreme as they introduced hex cores with a bit more cache and previews of next gen tech (pci-e 3 for example) although pre sandy i would 100% agree

but the 9590 brings nothing new to the table other than a 5ghz clock

first 5Ghz CPU ;) i think this is more of a "look Intel we were first to break 1 GHz and 5GHz" lol

think of the heat that thing is going to throw out.

If it is anything like the Phenom II I've got they better be bundling something akin to an H100 or NH-D14 with the thing otherwise there will be burning silicone somewhere.

Surprised AMD have gone with this considering they have said a few times they wouldn't be pushing anything near the intel extreme price range.

Not sure what current motherboard you have, but it is possible to upgrade your 955 to an 8350 with only a BIOS update.

I know it works with something like the Asus Crosshair IV Formula AM3 board.

Really cheap Asus board and the last bios update for this was the back end of 2010 or start of 2011. Can't even manually adjust my volts from what I can tell so it is sticking at 1.4 at stock. :(

I remember back in the Core 2 Conroe/Penyrn days you used to get the CPU with an unlocked multiplier for that extra 600/700/800 you'd spend on it.

I suppose once you think about it, this is an FX-8350 with a guaranteed overclock from AMD themselves, which is actually kind of cool. Price not withstanding of course. :p

They did have that overclockability card to play. The Piledrivers and even Bulldozers overclock quite well, certainly much better than the Haswells of this world. The FX-8350 is the current world record holder for instance.

It's not exactly costing them any more to produce, and they get the publicity with the whole "ZOMG 5GHz CPU!!!11!!" stuff you'll see circulating. If anything they'd be wrong not to try and obtain the max profit they can from their FX series.
