AMD FX-8120 + ASRock Extreme 3

Hm, okay. My next upgrade probably will be the FX8350 then, since it's comparable with the 3770k and it'd do the job for me. Thanks for the info!

aye fella it should do you well for games, just try an get a good 990fx mobo to go with it :)

There's not as many 990fx's out there as there are Z87's.. Any suggestions, what do you use yourself?
i have a gigabyte 990fxa ud5, steer clear of the ud3 version. i have heard good things about the sabertooth 990fx and the msi 990fx gd65

I'm using the M5A97 R2.0 from Asus and get a stable 4.2 on stock volts with my 8320 if you're not wanting to spend an awful lot.

Thank you for the input, I'm going for the Gigabyte 990FXA UD5. It looks great and it's very affordable :)

Glad to hear all worked well:)
Well, at the end, it didn't really. When I have my mobo I'll test this cpu on it. If it works that'd be great, otherwise I'll buy an FX 8350 :D

Good choice. I along with Tripp can vouch for the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 motherboard. I have it myself for nearly a year now and it's been rock solid stable since day 1.

Does anyone know something about unstable fps using a nvidia card in combination with an AMD cpu? It sounds like an odd combi, but is it?
Just to clarify, you can pair AMD CPUs with Nvidia GPUs no problem. Nvidia still wants to be able to sell you their GPUs if you're one of the 25% of people running AMD CPUs (according to Steam's HW survey).

Just like you can pair AMD GPUs with Intel no problem, AMD wants to be able to sell their GPUs to everyone aswell regardless of whether you're on AMD or Intel for the CPU. :)

Yeah, that's true. I'm feeling weird using an AMD cpu now after years of different Intel cpu's. This one isn't the best example because of the ASRock mobo, but I'm sure I'll like it soon :)

Btw, I love the blue accents on the Gigabyte board. I was planning to make a blue-white themed rig soon in the NZXT H440, so this all fits nicely :D

you wont be disappointed in that mobo its a solid choice, plus it looks great one of the reasons i chose it myself

Glad to hear that.

I think I know why I had such fps drops yesterday.. I don't think my VX450W is holding up ^_^
It's even coil whining now I'm using the AMD cpu, like, really loud as well. It didn't do that with the Intel cpu :p
Might have to upgrade my PSU some earlier..

haha yeah you will probs need to upgrade you power supply, the fx chips are a bit power hungry (not as bad as people make out though)

What is your GPU so I know for sure whether the problems you've been having are motherboard/CPU related or PSU related. 450W with a Bulldozer CPU and a half decent GFX Card really isn't going to cut it as those things are very power hungry.

I would definitely look to upgrade the PSU then since there is a very good chance you are maxing out the 12V rails capability with your setup.

Okay, thank you :)
Damn. New PSU's aren't cheap - Just had a look for second hand ones, would a Corsair HX520 do the job? I'm just looking for a cheap temporary fix, I'll replace it with a brand new AX860i or something later, when I'm really saving money to upgrade the system. The asker price is 35 euro's for the HX520.

If you want a good priced 'board for amd that is great for OCing then look at the Asus M5a99x EVO R2. I've done a build with one on the weekend with a 9590 and I think its much better value then I first thought :D. If it can take a 9590 (really surprised at actually how fast they are...) it'll swallow up anything you can get the 8350 to do.
