AMD DUAL-CORE on a budget -- the 3800 x2

The Athlon 64 X2 3800+ will run at 2GHz and each core will have a 512KB secondary cache for rapid data retrieval. The chip costs $354 in quantities of 1,000. That's less than existing dual-core Athlons, but the chip also doesn't provide the same performance levels as the chips released earlier. The Athlon 64 X2 4200+, for instance, has the same size cache but runs at 2.2GHz.

 mmm double the folding power :D

Yeah lol.

It's just, the Pentium 4 D's (2.8GHz) are lookin nicer and nicer with their friendly tag of around $275.

well thats what you get in a budget version ;)

true, but intel get some perverse pleasure from making new budget processors that perform like 2 year old hardware

I bet a 2.8Ghz Pentium D would smack around my proccy @ 2.2Ghz pretty well, no?

Edit, well, I am @ 3200+ = 3.2Ghz P4?

OK, so they aren't as good as the X2's.

But they're still fkin great :D

I think that Intel are going for a different market with the P4 D. This new X2 doesn't quite get to that market I don't think :(

I wanna X2!!!

Those Pentium D's sound so nice I WANNA SELL MY RIG FOR ONE NOW.

Hmmm...wld you reccomend it?

Depends what you do Nick really.

If you game a lot then maybe its not really worth it. BUT if you use a hella lotta big apps and encode a lot and stuff...then maybe its worth considering :D

I've asked all my folks to buy me parts to go towards my next project - a nice Intel shuttle :D

Well I do both Kempez. I do ton's of gaming and tons of photoshop, but my CPU tears throu it like a hot knife in butter..so no biggie.

I am sure that a P D or X2 can handle it better but I am also sure that you are ok right now ;)
