AMD Discrete GPU market share is less than 20%

Blame them for what? They have cards that are faster than most Nvidia counterparts. Exlcuding the Titan X, there really isn't a clear cut winner between comparable products. It's the fanboys who spread bad information and there's a lot of it. People still believe AMD drivers suck, they haven't sucked since Oct of 2012 with the first GCN dedicated drivers. It's been 3 whole years yet with all the fanboys it hasn't changed anything.

I'm no fanboy(despite what many of you will say), but I'm not blind and I do see what is happening. I'm just calling it how it is.

I couldn't care about Power Consumption at all. Even in ITX builds we got PSUs that still fit and can easily handle the loads... If I cared about power consumption, I wouldn't have bought an unlocked CPU or really got into PC gaming at all. Power in regards to performance is what I care about.

The power consumption part was actually sarcasm, just in case you thought it wasn't.

And I completely agree with you in the power to performance point.

Power consumption only became a big thing because AMDs cards were able to compete against their nVidia counterparts. Just fanbit*** grasping at straws really.

Fanboys spreading misinformation has nothing to do with competing, though. And don't make the claim that this has no impact. My friend bought a new graphics card less than two months ago, and he flat out refused to even consider AMD. When I asked him why, he couldn't give me a real answer. He now owns a GTX 960.

nVidia fanboys exist, they do spread misinformation, and it does move sales.

Yeah there's even Nvidia fanboys in my workplace who have never owned an ATI/AMD card yet talk trash non stop, A workmate of mine came over thinking I still had the Titan X in my rig and was saying -

"Awww this is amazing performance look at your frame rate it's freakin awesome".

He almost **** a brick when I told him to look inside the case ^_^

He then all of a sudden changed his tune very quickly saying -

"Yeah I could tell with stuttering and dropped frames everywhere and the heat is immense"

Even though I told him that he didn't notice until he saw it was AMD, The temp never went above 50'c, The frames were 100+, He was playing on a Freesync monitor and watts pulled from the wall were exactly on par with a 980 Ti but oh no now that he knew it was AMD it suddenly turned into a lump of coal.

@dice: do you happen to notice that on the Fury X the gameplay and whatnot is actually a bit smoother in comparison to the 980ti as well? As I had a Fury X with me briefly and that is how it felt in benches like valley etc. Wasn't sure if this was thanks to HBM, placebo or something else. I know there were some issues, but this was constant in every bench I ran.

Gameplay and benchmarks in general have always felt smoother on AMD to me, Even going back to the 4850 it felt smooth and even then I was only playing on 1400x900, AMD has it's frame times worked out nicely

Hope the dual Fury card comes soon, if its decent may just get one just for the sake of having AMD in one of the PCs instead of waiting till the shrink. Wonder what nVidia will do this time around. They kinda screwed it over by going from 590>690>Titan Z not to mmention the titan Z was a disgrace (though maybe the change in naming saved them in this case :lol

Would have been nice if it was a dual 780 instead, even if it was slightly gimped. Or they decided to use an AIO like AMD did.

Yep exactly, It's always felt that way to me ever since I had my 680, 780, 780 Ti, 980, Titan X etc....

I wish. Alienware did not include the fan plate for the third 120mm intake so I can't fit another rad in there *fumes*.

I'm still a bit wary of Crossfire too, so I think the Nano would be the perfect way to get higher FPS. No fuss either.

Also don't worry about about crossfire, its doing great. Before my 290x trifire died in a car accident the performance was stellar. Just remember to use DDU (that Dice kindly keeps updated over here) to uninstall any previous driver regardless of which company is from ( though you probably already know this part).

Yeah, they were supposed to come last month, was really hoping to get it up and running during my break.... But the store decided to screw around. Sad thing is that the store is one of the more well known ones here in AU.

There is a LOT of bad press around amd these days.
Its quite annoying, i have friends and they have been around computers for a LONG time.
They remember Radeon cards being great, they like amiga's and you could use some radeon cards on them so they were well regarded.

But You try and reccomend that they buy a Gpu that is not made by nvidia now.
its futile.
You reccomend something like a hd 7870 for instance (for some lighter 1080p gaming, and more work based) but they would rather buy a GTX 660, which confuses me imensly, for gaming they are about the same (near enough exactly the same actually) when you look at compute power the 7870 is faster, which makes it a better card all round.
But for some reason they think the nvidia card is better.
the power draw temps and noise is the same. the gaming performance is the same. If Anything the 7870 will have better drivers than the 660 due to very few changes made over the years from the HD to the R cards.
But there is so much bad info floating around that people will assume the nvidia card is better. They may mention physx. But i dont really think any one would be using that on a single 660 and if they were and it could run the game perfectly with it on, i doubt a modern cpu couldn't have done the work.
Its a form of "fanboyism" that gets bred through word of mouth. and it seems to be one of the worst kind.

If you want to blame anyone for the (completely paranoid and utterly delusional) downfall of AMD, then blame AMD. Blame their marketing dept, engineers, management, shareholders, suppliers, programmers, even their fictional character Ruby, for not stepping up to the game and delivering and staking their claim in the market. Don't blame their competition for eh, competing.

You could say that about their CPUs more then the GPUS imo. I wouldn't say AMD's downturn is entirely down to them however. Its more that nVidia have produced strong(er) cards and a better marketing strategy then decided to close AMD out of big selling games by effectively bribing people to use their GPU specific technology.

I do agree though. AMD aren't blameless. They're not some damsel in distress who've been completely ruined by dodgy practices from intel/nVidia (and YES I do know that they've done stuff in the past). They're alot better than they used to be but time will tell if they were too lazy (and under resourced) for too long.
