That 1 minute video said exactly ZERO about their product, Useless, Probably another boring mid range product.

Ever heard of teaser trailers? :p

When I first saw this I thought it could be a new line of cpus but in retrospect its probably something like an Athlon 750k or something as Core pretty much says 'Basic' in my mind. Again AMD's roadmap doesn't really give any indication about this CPU. Probably FM2+ if it is to do with cpus. AM3+ is really dead, even despite the recent new motherboards.

Then again the enterprise roadmap shows something new 2014/2015 so maybe there is a tiny chance that this could be 100% new.

Good to see AMD's marketing department at it again. GG fellas, I hope that nostalgia is working for you.

They asked an 8 year old what he think would be cool. That's what they do every time. I can't even watch the entire thing without feeling embarrassed for them.

I really do hope AMD has something good in the works for the next year or two, becouse I'd love to see a market where AMD and Intel have fierce competition in more than just the low end.

Hopefully as AMD can use smaller die sizes, and improve their designs they can give us something truly great, top i5 levels at least.

What I'd like to see is true hardware! Real cores something that can stand up to Intel, at least then we could have honest grudge matches Core for core, Herz for herz, Volt for Volt. I've said this before but now with Intel found guilty of merchandiser fixing and held to account AMD profits should rise giving us better future hardware.

Intel's advantage is far too great for AMD to catch up with a billion dollars. They pretty much have to double their performance per core.

Let hope the console and mobile market hits off big this Christmas then, would be a big sales boost. Will just have to see what AMDs annual stock shares are in December, as at the moment we've only seen a small rise since the court ruling.

AMD has another great problem: it's fabless.

This means zero priority for them because foundries obviously prefer to produce ARM chips and GPU chips ( and others ) before high performance-cpu optimized nodes... you know, money.

AMD will have hard time because most of the performance users lost intrest in amd's perormance lineup because of how overhyped fx lineup was and how poorly it performed. Almost all of the newish rigs on this forum i see have intels cpu, the exeption being barnsleys octobox

Seriously though AMD need to fire there PR and advertising guy's...i am clueless as to what this 'core advert' is.

Mine is over a year old now I think. Its a shame I built it for streaming (an AMD strong point) then moved away to an area with crappy internet :(.

AMD cpus are on par with intel on a few aspects. Sadly those aspects are either already dominated by Apple products (some adobe products love cores)or aren't major programs.

I wouldn't get too excited about the video. It's probably something to do with the new Carrizo APU, and that's not going to set the world on fire either. Late 2015 or early 2016 is the earliest you're talking about for a truly new CPU from AMD.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I doubt I am.

$450m over about 4/5 years is the quoted R&D spend from some AMD VP (can't remember the name) to develop a new x86 core from the ground up from initial design all the way through to release. So if they had a spare $1bn in the bank (which they don't), it's possible for them to catch up on performance if they started a new development, which they likely did a few years back. Catching Intel on perf/W is going to be much harder though.

Anyway that $1bn fine Intel paid (if that's what you're referring to) went to the fat-cats in Brussels not to AMD sadly, and not only that it was already paid back in 2009 or whenever Intel initially lost that court case.

Core is back?
The Phenom returns? A true successor to the X6?

I can dream...

Could be. They were pretty vague about it but it COULD mean a refit of something like the Phenom or maybe Athlon? Probably something along those lines or they could be referring to their new Carrizo APUs? I haven't really read up on them yet but that could be it.
