Amd Bulldozer cpu

remember the 'FX' are designed for AM3+ mobos, and so will never reach their full potential

i am still going to wait for the FM chipsets to be released and the beefier BDs to be tested before i make my choice.

if they don't float my boat and the SR-3/2700K looks better, i may go down that route instead

Il hold my horses too, but i will gte a 2500k for my lan rig anyways

Have been all over the reviews and it's a universal panning of Bulldozer as a desktop CPU. I waited for months for this kick in the crotch.

Not buying into this so will have to hunt Intel gear. I'm sad for AMD.

I’ve read several reviews and it’s very disappointing in some cases it was beaten by the 1100t. For about £40 less you could get a 2500k which performs much better. Performance will probably improve when games and other applications are more optimized for it. But don’t bother with bulldozer for now.

What I don't get is why/how AMD got it soooo wrong. Reading the various articals, watching the vids on Youtube etc. AMD seem to have got every nescessery engineering objective wrong as well as the position in the market place. Bulldozer may be the next step for server, academia chips but why position it for the desktop. For AMD to spout that client and OS software is not yet ready to take advantage of its advances is just stupid, you must take notice of what is needed right now if you want to sell people your product. Bulldozer is too slow, too big, too inefficient and too expensive for the performance. It's not even that AMD didn't have somthing to aim at it did, Sandy Bridge. It took plenty of time to do it in as well. I just don't get where AMD hoped to go with Bulldozer in the desktop market place at this time.

Someone once said "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging" AMD seemed to have filled in the hole while still in it, with a Bulldozer ... see what I did there.

Sad but true

I hope they pull this out of the bag with enhanced because otherwise Ivy Bridge is just going to smash the tits off AMD and no-one wants to see that, even Intel fan-bois. One year to sort it on a new socket.

+1 for the Sad but True link.

The way I see it, they got 1 year to compete with SB. In Jan 2012, Intel's SB-E will wipe the floor, even in price/performance, with the current AM3+ BD. If I was them, I'd say die-shrink the K10 Phenom II architecture and strap on 2 cores. With AVX (and the other instruction set that I forgot the name of) support, I don't think they could go wrong if you could OC to SB levels.

"I'm your truth, telling lies" <- yeah, that sounds like AMD right now. They said that more cores instead of hyper-threading was their direction (it implies that their chosen direction wouldn't suck)

Edit: I'm pretty sure it's FMA & AVX

Edit 2: Look at this s*** - $294 for an 8150

Bang on, yea I don't think anyone was expecting them to take on SB-E but they really need to challenge Ivy. I had a look at AMD's own FX page just to see how they were marketing it and I was actually embarrassed for them as I read it.

Any excuse for a metallica reference

"first 8-core CPU" is utter BS as we've known for a while (8 integer core != 8 true cores). "Energy Efficiency" is a total joke. Given how poorly BD performs, they'll need to drop prices fast. Now that my question is low-end SB-E or high end BD, the answer is obvious. At 10-15% better per core performance per generation, AMD simply won't ever challenge Intel's high end, and is struggling to meet Intel's i5-2500K ( which is $238, $56 dollars cheaper than an 8150)

MoP was Metallica's best album (RTL was freaking amazing too). Considering you're name, I WANT Metallica references from you. Look at my sig, I felt the need to add the first verse of Megadeth's "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" after talking about religion like the sane people we are. Like AMD and Intel, I like both Metallica and Megadeth.
