AMD 8970 Info

9970 rumoured to be faster than the 780.

Sounds good to me :) Wonder what price it will come in at though? To cost more than the 780 it needs to be a fair bit faster to justify the price. If AMD follow suit and stick to price to performance, around £500 sounds about right.

I wont be able to afford one anyway, it's the 9950 for me.

I'll happily take a HD9850 if there is one. :D

Estimates based on the hardware rumours is anything from 10-20% faster than a 780. And knowing AMD, they'll price-match nVidia at launch and then drop the price by 50 dollars for the Christmas present market.

10-20% I cannot see, 5% maybe.

Yeah, it's not going to be that much faster than the 780. According to the rumours it's faster than a 780 but not as fast as a Titan.

With the little difference between the 780 and Titan, that doesn't leave much of a performance gap between the 780 and 9970.

My money is on the 9970 being at the most 5% faster but most likely trading blows in a lot of things.

Excalabur50: From what i know there are an extreme few Fabs capable of 20nm. Intel is preparing 20nm(next cpu i think) and the only other fabs capable of this from what i know are for flash memory like SSDs for example.

The interesting thing is though there are more than one site rumouring 20nm so you never know it may just happen still even if it isn't I would still like to see it give the 780/Titan a run for their money just to keep things ticking over nicely

I honestly would not mind 20nm, i'm just saying it's all rumor until AMD says something to confirm or deny. Considering a 780 is about 5% slower than a Titan i see no reason why the 9970 wouldn't be as fast if the rumored 5-10% faster than a 780. I would definitely try to upgrade to a 9970 if if was that powerful:)

It will be on the 28nm fab process for sure.

The 9970 will be a certain purchase for me if it beats the Nvidia Titan outright. Give me benchmarks already :ar:

The 9970 will be maybe a £500 card ? It's not going to beat a £900 card.

Price isn't indicative of performance. But more importantly, why not? It will be in AMD's best interest to do so; really stick it up to Nvidia and be a massive selling point that moves more units.

How would Nvidia respond? Release Maxwell? Win win for AMD if they can pull it off. :)
