AMD 8970 Info

still only rumours :)
Yup, the story changes every week. Unless you hear anything from AMD themselves take it with a massive grain of salt.

The latest roadmap they had out, had the 7000 series lasting all of 2013, with the focus being on developer collaboration and driver development (which is time very well spent) instead. I'm not sure if they've released another roadmap since.

Although it doesn't say when they are coming it does confirm that they are.
Yeah the only message I got from when I read that was that the next gen cards will have better coolers. Lacking of course what said "Next Gen" is. :p

The new coolers aren't a bad thing though. The blowers that are on the current reference cards are damn noisey it seems. If the new reference coolers are anything like the one on the reference 7990 then they'll be effective and quiet at the same time.

They aren't allowed to say until AMD officially announce it.

They are coming, it's just a matter of when. The news about driver support for 8000 series cards in the latest drivers most likely means there are, or will be engineering samples soon. I don't see why they would include driver support for 8000 series cards that don't exist otherwise.

Still, who knows everything is just rumours at the moment but the driver support is real anyway. I hope they do come later this year, my GPU upgrade trigger finger is twitching. :)
