Benchmarks would disagree o my brother. You can see a pretty sizeable jump in performance with that much of an increase. Yes it wont be faster than the almighty Intel but it'll still be pretty damn fast. Besides this is Overclock3D not IntelOverclock3D so kudos to you OP for getting that done. Very few people are getting that good a result with the new PD chips. Is that OCCT stable? Piledriver seems to handle linpack stress testing pretty well but falls on its face with P95 or OCCT so make sure you stress test it properly.
I think you've misunderstood. Of course MHz is very important. Your not going to have a 2.5Ghz PD chip running a benchmark as fast as a 5.0Ghz PD chip. But what he's saying is that Mhz isn't everything in a chip. A 7Ghz PD chip will still run Super Pi slower than a 2.8Ghz Mobile Ivy chip. Now that is pretty worrying for me and I would start asking questions.
I think they are really flogging a dead horse with the PD and BD architecture and they should go back to the sort of design features of conventional CPU's. Of course they should look towards APU's since that is the future of the CPU!!
If they can get an APU working in a way where the GPU would do all the FP calculations and then the CPU would do all the interger work, then you would have a recipe for a very fast chip indeed and that's where their entire product line is pointing towards with BD/PD and GCN. But for me it needs to come sooner rather than later as Steamroller won't be here until 2014 if it even comes at all now. They need to move most of their man power to the CPU side once their 8000 Series GPU's are finalized as they can't let intel run away with the market, that would be very bad news for everyone. We need competition for the end user to benefit.
I dislike AMD processors, but I agree... Thats a nice clock man.Does every single thread on the internet that mentions AMD have to turn into an "AMD sucks - Intel rules" thread? The guy hit a pretty big milestone in overclocking and wanted to post it on an overclocking enthusiast forum and all we're getting is "so what, it still sucks cause its not Intel". What a crock.
btw what kind of performance at stock are you getting in borderlands 2 with that CPU? When it first released I remember seeing benches and it couldn't even average 60 FPS
If you are getting 60FPS avg with it at stock I will probably recommend my bud pick one up as he wants to build a rig and hes a complete n00b so obviously doesn't want to shell out a grand.
Linus did a quick video on AMD + AMD, AMD + nVidia and maybe Intel with both as well, can't remember. Worth a watch, may answer some questions (about borderlands 2)
