AMD 7970 Pictured

Yep, but PCI-E 3 is backwards compatible with PCI-E 2 so it will still work just not at PCI-E 3 bandwidth which I don't think matters performance wise, but no one knows for sure yet.

I suppose pcie 3 will only realy affect performance if using multiple cards. due to the larger bandwidth.

The card most likely features 1.5 GB GDDR5

i hope that isnt true, i thought the reason they put 2GB on the 6900 series and released a 2GB version of the 5870 was because 1GB couldn't handle 3 screens and the 1.5GB 580s couldn't really handle it either so manufactures started making 3GB editions

heck in some games when maxed out the 1.5GB 580s are vram limited even at 1080p

I also thought that was to little memory, 12 ram chips should give more than 1.5 gb, 3gb sounds right to me.

yeah that sounds right to me as well i think it went

4800 512MB (not sure as this was before my time, feel free to correct me if i am wrong )

5800 1GB

6900 2GB

7900 3GB sounds about right, 1.5GB makes it look like a downgrade even if it is clocked faster

Yes your right exsept for the odd oc or dd adition.

I think like you said we will see 7900 cards with 3gb and 7800 mid range with 1.5-2gb.

I'm really not looking forward to the release price, I'm looking to get 2 7970s the day their released, probably going to be the best part of a thousand pounds, ouch.

Some more pics. A naked PCB...
