AMD is a half year ahead of nVidia. Hopefully, the performance is there though. It's all PCI 3.0 though. I'd need a new board to enjoy one. I might wait for the nVidia 600-series. Would love to see how the AMD cards fold though. I'm addicted to it. No folding @ home = deal breaker.

Ofc, they aren't going to even fully use the PCI-E 3.0. If anything, they are more forwards-compatible with PCI-E 3.0, if you get my drift

It's the other way around they are backwards compatible with PCI-E 2 but they are natively PCI-E 3, even if they don't max out the bandwidth.

EDIT: when run on PCI-E 3 the bandwidth is doubled so on PCI-E 3 at x8 x8 would it would be the same as x16 x16 on a PCI-E 2.

So yes they are PCI-E 3 but backwards compatible with PCI-E 2 but thanks for the negative rep anyway.

Cheers bud, good to know. I'm not going to upgrade though, as a GTX 580 will be more than enough for the foreseeable future (for me). But, I may get the urge to upgrade if the performance of the higher end 7000 series cards is immensely greater then the performance of the current generation high-end Nvidia or AMD GPU's.

Aye, a 580 should do you fine. I think I'd upgrade when the 580 isn't enough for the games I want to play, which could be in a year and a half, or in two years time. Might build a PC or do a project for my bday around May-time next year though

I think by that time the high end stuff will be out, plus nVidia will be competing properly with AMD (both on 28nm)
