AMD 13.11 Beta Driver

New Beta Driver from AMD, BF4 performance is improved!!! The Beta is now running smooth as butter for me :)

Also, for anyone with lower end GPUs and have low FPS, try using SweetFX. Here is my config, just drop these files into your BF4 main folder.

You need to disable MSAA in game and SweetFX will do SMAA.

SMAA will save you a decent amount of FPS as well as cut down VRAM usage. I've also turned the sharpness up which gives you a much clearer, sharper image and i've also upped the vibrance to make colours stand out more.

Basically it gives you better visuals with less of a FPS reduction, you can toggle the effects on and off in game using the Insert key to see the difference.

Whats your fps mate? As I am on the latest normal amd drives an dont drop below 40 an stay between that an 60 fps on fairly high settings

I haven't checked since these new Beta drives, i'll play a round now and let you know.

Even if you don't have a FPS increase, the game is definitely smoother now.

I wonder if these ones fix the 2D corruption problems preventing me from playing Total Annihilation (yes, that old 2D RTS from 1997). :) 13.8 / 13.10 break that game badly.

EDIT: thanks for the heads up SieB!

Thanks bud, I havent noticed any problems with the game myself, only lag an game crashes which has nout to do with drivers or the gpu

I just ran everything on Ultra with 4x MSAA and performance is definitely better. when the Beta first started I was getting dips of about 35 FPS in certain areas now it's only dipping to ~42ish.

Anyway, average FPS is now about 45-50 and max is around the 59-60 mark. It's also running a lot smoother now with no stuttering and lag, for me anyway.

I'm running SweetFX and using SMAA though, so i'll be getting better FPS than what I just got. I ran it without SweetFX with everything maxed on Ultra so everyone can compare.

I looked at the beta notes and it did not mention anything about bf4? It mentioned Total War Rome 2 10% performance increase(the one i only care about lol) and splinter cell/skyrim performance increases. Nothing on bf4. I will still download and install and see what the difference is from 13.10 to 13.11.

I've not checked the official release notes, I saw the article about 13.11 on Techpowerup. They say it has improvements for BF4 in there, not sure but BF4 is definitely running better for me now with better FPS and no stuttering or lag.

This is from the amd website. Linky
I'll take your word for it though:p

Strange, maybe there was something not running right on my PC before and installing this driver fixed it and thats why i'm getting performance.

I don't see why AMD wouldn't list it in the notes so I guess Techpowerup are wrong.

I would be surprised the don't advertise it. They are trying to get everyone to buy AMD cards so on the driver side you would figure it would be the biggest improvement.

Maybe the improvements aren't BF4 specific? If they just improved the CrossFire stutter, that would explain the increased smoothness.

P.S. Total Annihilation is still broke. :( Damn it, I want no stutter AND the ability to play a 16 year old game!! Why must I chose!?!?! Damn you AMD!

Possibly. Logical explanation.
Are you referring to Total Annihilation Kingdoms? My first ever PC game:)

No, I'm talking about the original that preceded Kingdoms (same game engine I believe though). :) Damn I'm old!

I must be too because I play that game the most. Have you tried on TA universe to see if there is a fix for your issue?

They updated BF4 which improved my performance alot. My fps went from 5-30 to 20-50, currently installing the new driver aswell :)
