Amazon releases free Lumberyard game engine which is based on CryEngine and features Twitch integration which allows Streamers to invite fans into games.

So this is basically CryEngine btw.. Guess who bailed them out when things were grey... Amazon! (read article and noticed you mentioned that, cool)
 
This all really makes sense for Amazon, get developers to use their server for multiplayer and get build twitch into enough games that no other streaming service can compete.

Cryengine didn't do very well in the wake of Unreal Engine 4, but hopefully Amazon has what it takes to really make this work.

Amazon has the money to make it happen.. they could outright buy unreal engine if they seriously wanted to. Its very smart for them to get twitch integrated considering they bought them. It's just a case of bringing there assets together to make a better product now.
