incorrect.
out-of-the-box, neither use CUDA natively.
they require very expensive plugins that parse the scenes and render them:

iRay - needs Quadro or Tesla GPUs, and is buggy as hell.
vray-RT - viewport 'previewer' - NOT raytraced in a virtual buffer (cannot export image from viewport to image file). :(
or
MentalRay standalone (or similar: Arnold for Maya)

besides that... none of the CUDA renderer solutions can parse the 'standard' gaming shaders.

all of which, is way out of budget for any student ;)

I used to use Maya myself, i know that Fermi can take use of Ray tracing, it is not a Tesla/Quadro only feature...

I can afford all of the setups i just need to know which one is better
the 7950 black edition CFX, the gtx 670 reference SLI or the matrix platinum 7970 single card because im not sure how the 7950 CFX stacks up to the competition

The 7950s are clocked at 900MHz and the memory is 5500 effective.
If i get a 850W power supply would i be able to OC Both cards and the 3770k?

Also would i need a HAF X to cool those cards better than a stryker? or even a fractal R4 Arctic white?

On this other review the benches say the card is around 5 frames lower than a 7970 in some games
but can be OC'ed to over 1000Mhz core. club 3D cards arent available in australia aswell :(

The 7950CFX is the fastest of the 3 choices. I suggest a fractal over the Haf x, just add a couple extra fans to help with cooling. The stryker is a great case and i would still suggest a fan or two to help with cooling. Its a personal choice so pick the case you want!

Overclock the cards for better performance, why would you buy top of the line cards and leave them at stock? :lol: You can probably hit 1150mhz on those 7950s so don't panick. If your overclocking get a good 750watt over a decent 850watt.
 
some people sya that the total power consumption is around 700 Watts so wouldnt it be better to grab a 850 instead? dual 7950s didnt see that coming :D
hopefully the cards can overclock to within 50 MHz of eachother so there isnt major differences but i can safely say this build is going to be awesome :D

What mobo should i be picking for this, the p8z77 one that i picked before

I had just read that the 7950 is quite close to the 660TI is that true? if so i may have to go with the 670sli instead of the cfx

I would recommend an MSI board instead, the MSI MPower is very popular.
I have never heard of that brand of SSD before, I would recommend you stick to Corsair.
I think a corsair psu would be a better choice, the AX760i or 860i would be great choices.
Finally, why are you getting a full tower case for a small cpu cooler?

Some of the pages in this thread have me saying that the Mpower is not available in this store but can be specially ordered for a fairly substantial price . I am still thinking about the CPU cooler, it all depends on which setup i choose to use as they all require sacrifices, except the matirx 7970 setup
I have Emailed PLE and they can get an Mpower for 285$ which would take out all options of an SLI build in which case i would go with a MVF and a matrix as its the best AMD card the store stocks.

They dont stock gigabyte cards, sapphire cards or MSI cards and the Mobos only come in Asus brand and Gigabyte. So unfortunatly there isnt much variety :(

If i buy parts from a computer store in australia it would cost exactly the same as it would if i was to get it custom built in australia :(.Alot of the SSDs are over 120$ and would end up costing me a good cpu cooler as i only have 2400$ for this build.

i can get a Sapphire X cpu cooler or a i30 freezer or even a seidon 120M with my SLI or CFX build but in order to get a H100 i would have to sacrifice SLI/CFX. The main question is whether i should get 2 7950 XFX black editions over 2 Reference AFOX Gtx 670s

The SSD is only 89$ with the v60 and samsung 840 120gb in at 109$
the velox V30 is supposedly not that bad but not amazing

from what iread the 8xxx series won't be much of a boost.

the 7950s are faster, you probably saw benchmarks before the 12.11 drivers.
Get the stryker over the haf x, just my opinion, and drop windows 8 just go for 7 but your choice. Well i would drop down to the 2nd monitor and get a keyboard as well, just a better deal!

Just go for the XFX card :)

Go with a gigabyte board IMO i think they are better.

SSD wise go for a samsung 830 as they are more value for your money and should last longer than the standard 840(not pro).

with the money saved on the ssd put it towards a cooler! Hopefully this helped^_^

Thanks you have helped alot, most of the reviews for the 7950s have been Release date reviews. The 7950s are 30-50 cheaper so thats a whole 60-100$ saving i was thinking of going with the phantom 820 with those savings but i have decided not to, its too much money for some cool lights :lol:

Im hoping i can get some decent overclocks on the cpu and gpu's because that would be awesome :D and if it smashes the 7970 or 670 that would be even better :D

The up4 mobo is pretty good from what i have seen and comes with a 3 year warranty which is always reasuring.

The phantom 820 is a waste of money for the price, the Switch 810 is a better case and cheaper.

If you overclock Xfire 7950s and sli 670s the 7950s will be faster because they overclock farther, the microstutter issue i can't comment on as i have never xfired, its a driver issue if anything.

i looked at some psu calculators on google and most said a pair of 7950s will pull 700watt with a 3770k, get a gold+ rated psu and you would lower the watts being used from the wall because of higher efficiency. Seasonic is a very good psu company and i usually reccomend them above all else, i would say corsair but i think their to mainstream :p

With crossfireX do i need to download profiles for the games i would be playing?
im just hoping that i can gain a higher framerate than the 670 SLI :cool:

With the amount of mobos that are on there the th is 255$ the p8z77V pro is 219 and the regular p8z77V is 199

if i can keep the temps around 70 and not 85+ i would be really Happy :D

Ya on most they do use seasonic, i meant i only recommend psus using seasonic lol

I don't know if you do, i doubt but google is always there to answer, and yes the 7950s will be faster. I'm pretty sure at both stock they are very very close and the difference is negligible. But once you xfire and then overclock(again they OC farther) is when they shine :)

Get the 199$ mobo, really won't see any differnce unless you OC beyond 4.6ghz i would imagine with those boards.
 
Yeah kk, I just capped 200 gigs of internet from beta testing due to it being quite a busy month playing alot of the future releases but when i capped the internet usage the ISP slowed my internet down to less than 10kb/s so its a real struggle getting this page to load and even worse trying to look at reviews or even going on the PLE website
