i've a problem which i have spent 1 week trying to sort out, and so far, im still stuck in this pile of poo.

soooo........where eles to look for answer other than here eh? and im sure you lot are friendly, kind and caring bunch.....innit!:D :D :D

back on track, what is it that im going ask.

well, i have a problem choosing the right CPU.

this is what i have, a commando board, i have 2 set of 5400 twinX DDR2 ram = 2GB......thats laying about ready to be a living room comp, meaning its going to play movies, go on the net, email, let brats play computer games few times a week, thats it.

so a multi purpose machine really, nothing specific task, just have to do the rounds quickly.

now, i have to choose a CPU, should i get e4300 or e6300? they are both about the same price, ok, 10quids or so apart, but which one do i get?

the Rams thats going to be used is from donkeys years ago in computer years, and im not sure if they are going to be good enough for it, as meaning......im going to OC this comp when im bored no matter what:p (as long as my parents dont know what im doing, im ok, since they are paying MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

honestly, most of the parts from this build is coming from my spare colletion, the only new things is mobo and cpu which the funds are from my old man.

so, which one is it? e43 or e63?

I would probably have to say 6300 due to the cache, although it makes sweet FA difference really. I went for the 4300 out of mainly curiosity and wanting to see how they overclock for myself :D

I would advise that you sell your old bits to pay for some decent DDR2 memory though. What stuff have you got in mind at the moment?

If I'm not mistaken, the 6300 and 4300 has the exact same cache size :)

erm.........the stuff i have digged out from spares are as follow:-

2GB of DDR2 5400 TwinX 512MB rams.

a few HDD, some of them are SATAII, ah, SP250!

OOOOOH and a amazingly fast uber 6800XT GFX!

lots of screws.....and cables.....lol

honestly tho, cant really be arsed will the selling and buying of rams, i'd rather keep everything simple as meaning using all my spare stuff.

I could swear I read somewhere that the E4300 had some of its cache (maybe L1) disabled.

If not then good news for me :p

Fair enough about not wanting to sell stuff on. I thought the memory was going to be some un-branded modules out of a P4 Dell lol

Tis the bus speed that is slower

SL9SA 1.86 GHz E6300 06 1066 MHz 65 nm B2 2 MB LGA 775

SL9TB 1.80 GHz E4300 06 800 MHz 65 nm L2 2 MB LGA 775

E4300 ftw tbh

I have to disagree Kempez. While most E6300's have a relitively stable overclocking history (most hit 3GHz on less than 1.4v), E4300's are extremely erratic, overclocking wise. Some people can get 3Ghz with 1.3v on them, others have needed upwards of 1.45v! The weeks vary a lot. Plus, the "real" allendale core which the E4300's and the newest batch of E6300's & E6400's have is a bit (not noticeable in real world) slower clock for clock than the Conroe cores with 2MB L2 disabled.. (which the E63/64's have been up until the E4xxx launch).

IMO, you have fairly good ram. Go with the E6300. All (name brand) DDR2 will do 800MHz, it's a given. You should be able to coax 900MHz out of yours. If you can, that's 3.1Ghz almost 3.2.

e63 eh? thats the one i was thinking of getting too, cause maybe a few months down the line those quicker rams might become cheaper and upgrade then.

oh i dont know.....its all too much for my little brain!

LOL

im now gonna go search for the best deal on those CPUs....

That's the one! It makes the E4300 much more convenient to use on low-performing motherboards because of the increased multi!

Indeed which is why I suggested it. It takes more experience of overclocking to get a high OC out of a lower multi chip imo
