Alienware Unviels Its Most Powerful Notebook Ever The Area-51 m17x

One of those things I`d love to get if I could only justify it to myself.

I`d like to be more like the Ocz DIY, but more "DIY" tbh - although it`s hard.

I do like that they`ve seen fit to put 12 cells in their newer creations, even tho I`d like some less geared up laptops to have 12 cells just to pro-long their activity.

One things for sure, they`re a fair few exciting latops options out there other than the good Dell/Acer/Hp standard designs. Even tho u gotta tack on £100s more for the priviledge.

The plainer one does look better to me, don`t fancy the go-faster ripples. Loving the keyboard too, very mbp.

I still think the Killer-notebooks beast with a desktop q9650 in it would be a bit of a laugh. Possible a bit cheaper seeing as they ship from the US. Its not like battery life is going to be much more than an hour and a half on any of these when gaming.

Then again by an eee for all the solitaire action you ever wanted!

At least the eee doesn't break your back when you try to carry it :P

I think these notebooks are in no way really useful. A laptop (at least in my environment) is for working on location, showing a CAD drawing if necessary, nothing more. My medion laptop of €300 does this job perfectly, despite being single core and having intel graphics.

When you want to use gpu / cpu intensive applications (games), it's better to have a desktop no matter how you look at it. The only advantage of a high performance laptop is the ability to work with your own personalised apps on location. But again, most of the time you use those apps at your own desk with your own desktop which has cost you a third the price for the same performance.

And besides, a high performance laptop weighs a ton and doesn't have any serious battery life. To be drawing / gaming on the move (i.e. in the train) you would need at least 1.5 hours of battery life, which is something most gaming laptops do not reach. Of course that could have changed with the 12cells.
