Aerocool Hard Dock

FEAR

New member
Hi

I want to mount 3 hard disks into 2 cd rom bays, Been looking into these adapters, and found this, it converts 2 cd rom bays into 3 hard disk slots,

however, I will be running 2 x 74gb raptors in raid, and a 200gb sata drive,

Im abit concerned about heat, wont it get extremely hot using this Aerocool Hard Dock? I dont want to damage my raptors, as you know their expensive.

Any suggestions or other ideas for mounting 3 hdd in 2 cd rom bays?

I've got two raptors and a 120gb maxtor all sitting on top of eachother in my case, and i've never had any problems at all :-/

That thing has a fan in it, so it should be ok.

I have four HDD's in my bay area, 3 of which are powered on.

(The fourth is an OH SHIT drive. It has a copy of xp on there, some music, CS:S, aim & msnm, etc)

My temps are more than acceptable.

My rule that applies to everything: If it moves, don't trust it.

Yeah...Deepfried I had that because I'm running RAID0, and I never did before, and if I ever fux0red it up, I wanted to have a computer, until I wanted/felt like reformatting :).

I have a few more HDD's laying around, but they're all better.

I wanted to use the crappiest one I could find, which is why it's a Western Digital Protege 30GB 5400RPM :rollingla

sides are the hottest parts of raptors, so you shouldnt have too much of a problem. also with the fan it seems ok, but make sure you have SMART enabled just in case.

Raptors handle extreme temps VERY well... Mine get bloody hot since I don't have a direct cooling solution for them and they work wonderfully and never give me any shit.

thanks,

just bit cautious, as you all know raptors are expensive!

I will ethier look into an adapter solution, or I will have to shuffle some bits around in my case to fit 3 hard disks into 3 bays.

I have Lian Li PC 61, As Im doing water cooling I am taking the bottom hard drive cage out to fit in a radiator.

Ethier going for a bay res, which means I will have to go with the hard disk adapter, or a tube res, which means I will have a room for all HDD without one.

Ethier way the cost will work out exactly the same pretty much to do tube res, or bay res with HDD adapter!
