advise on which CPU to donate

Hi all,
So a mate of mine asked if I could help sort out his PC as it wont play BF1.
He has an old Phenom (first gen) with 4 gig of ram.
But he wants it super cheap, and I mean super cheap. So he has asked if I can donate him anything. I have an 2500k and a 3550 sitting around doing nothing so I said he can have a processor but I don't know which one to give him. I don't need either and he wont be overclocking but which shall I donate as they perform about the same?
he can sort the rest out I think he has got a 7970 for GPU and is going to recycle a PSU and a Case.

Which do u guys think 2500k or 3550? oh and I know it doesn't make much of a difference but they are both engineering samples so will the 3550 be compatible with the second gen chipset (p67 or z68?)

I would imagine the 3550 will have a slight edge over the 2500k stock for stock. However, I see no reason on earth why you can't just up the multi to 42 and give it plenty of voltage to keep it stable. At which point the 2500k would walk it, and due to 4.2ghz should be super stable.

If you do go the 3550 route though make sure you are on the latest bios.

yeah cool but I think OC'ing is going to be outta the question. he is going so cheap on this build I will be surprised if we get a board that can. I think he is looking at b75 chipset. and then convincing to spend on a cooler is going to be a challenge.

I think the 3550 will last a bit longer and it can do PCIe 3 cant it?

the 2500k even not overclocked can run the game without rediculous frame drops but dont expect to pair it up with anything better than a 970 and get the full benifit of the gpu.

p.s
all 3rd gen intell core I cpus can do 3.0.. but not all chipsets on the motherboards can.

PCIE3 = PCIEpee. Waste of time unless you are running quad SLi.

Even a four phase board should be able to hit 4.2ghz dude. Just punch in 42 and leave the voltage stock and see if it's stable and go from there. To test it use Asus Realbench.
