Advise on PSU for my rig

I've decided to upgrade my PC and so far have Intel Q9300, ASUS P5Q Pro, 4gb PC2-8500, 1 SATA HDD, I plan to go for the ATI HD3870x2 graphics card. I wanted the PSU to be able to handle crossfire in future if i wanted to go that way.

Reading up I plan to buy the cosair CMPSU-1000HXUK at around £140. Would appreciate any comments or advice anyone has on this. Thanks.

1000 ... Watts? Are you planning on upgrading to a NASA computer?

750 would be MORE than enough for your system, 600 is sufficient but with a small margin. I'd say the Corsair 750w is a good one for 100 euro in europe.

Also, why do you choose a 3870x2, and not a 4850, which is cheaper, more energy efficient and has higher performance?

What do u mean 750W Go for the 620HX by Corsair.

You have to be mega rich to buy that 1000W PSU, coz your Electricity Bill will be skyrocket

No it wouldn't.... Surely it would only rocket if the attached hardware was actually drawing loads of power out of it..

Ahhh good... So I wasn't chatting crap.

Hmm well next PSU upgrade I go for might just be a tank. Not huuuuuge huge but large enough to allow for possibility of multi gfx card.

Back to the original question... A 750 PCP&C would be a sweet buy and give you room to upgrade. If you are planning on seriously upgrading at any point or see yourself doing it in the future (and you have the money to burn) then nout wrong with a 1000w.

Not worth it if you aint planning on upgrading to beefier things though.

Thanks guys, I thought that the PSU would only draw what the PC devices needed, thanks for confirming and providing some PSU specs to look at. Most of my decisions are based on reviews on the net and the ASUS PSU Calculator.

The last time I was involved with PSUs was when 500W ATX was at the high end !

(only coz I didn't know)

Lol I wasn't saying you were... I was just happy that I wasn't.

I just assumed what I said as it made sense to me but I could easily have been wrong.

Good Choice.

750W is good for pretty much all dual card configs. (With the exception of the latest dual GPU cards). The only reason to go for 1000W is for 3/4 card configs and such.

Very nice mate. Had one of those in a previous rig of mine. Gotta love PCP&C :worship:

as one is solved heres another;

currently got a hiper 525

but am looking to upgrade as my set ups growing.

AM2RD580 mobo

3870toxic (probbably going to xfire vsoon wih an identical card)

500gb sata (soon to be x2)

as it stands with one gpu the hiper is fine but it only has one pcie connection

so i'll be forced to get a newpsu

any reccomendations? Quieter is better.thinking about

THERMALTAKE Toughpower WO105RB 700 Watt or

OCZ GameXStream 700W
