Advice required re: "Quick Release" fittings

Hi,

I'm currently pulling together a parts list to water cool my gamer as listed in my sig below.

I'm going with an external radiator which will be mounted in a rad chassis that can also take the pump and res. The space in my CM 690 II was just too compromised for my liking.

Anyway, I want to use "quick release" type fittings between the rad and the case so I can move things around if need be once the loop is full. I've never used these before so wanted to get some advice on exactly what I need.

I've sort of assumed that the very nature of "quick release" is that they are self-sealing for when the loop is full - very much like the hose-pipe attachments I use in the garden. I assume (again!) that I'd need two pairs of these, one pair for in and another for out - sealing both PC's water and rads water from leaking.

If anyone can recommend some parts and, if possible, give me a SpecilTech link, I'd appreciate it. Also, are there any Cons to using such fittings? The big Pro is of course being able to break the loop between case and rad without leaking or needing to drain first, hence my looking at these. I wonder if they might potentially prove restrictive though.

All thoughts and comments welcome - I will publish my full parts list once I'm happy.

Cheers,

Scoob.

The Koolance quick disconnects are reviewed well. I haven't got any myself but i've read around and seen videos on YouTube too. They look almost leak proof when they are actually pulled apart too which I think has been a weak point for other QDCs. I've been thinking about the potentially restrictive nature of them but haven't read anything so I guess that is positive.

You can get them from specialtech, just remember to get a male and female part for each joint (I don't get why they don't just sell them in pairs...).

Yeah Koolance and Swiftech make some IIRC the koolances have several revisions the last having no leak when disconnected and only a trace amout that doesnt even add up to a drop when seperated. And they dont sell them in pairs cause they are available in straight and 90degree styles. Most dont need 90m to 90f so they make it to where ya can buy exactly what ya need. Plus it adds to their bottom line lol

I've got some phoyba ones on the desk here :0! They're sold in pairs but no idea how they perform yet because I'm still waiting on my blocks to arrive before I set up my loop.

A drawback is decrease in flow rate.

Edit, If you're looking for recommendations you should probably included the tubing size you're using, these phobya ones are for 13mm/10mm tubingwhich I am using.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

I'd basically been looking at either the Phobya or Koolance ones as that's all SpecialTech had listed lol.

They don't appear to be sold in pairs unless I'm missing something. So I think what I need is two each of these "Extreme Flow" variants:

Male: SpecialTech Link

Female: SpecialTech Link

Fairly pricy considering you need four, but I think this is the right way to do things for my setup.

Oh, I'm using 1/2" ID, 3/4" OD tubing with compression fittings throughout. I didn't mention it as there appeared to be fittings for most sizes.

Cheers,

Scoob.
