hi

have existing 3.2 sct478 system which is all w-cooled, but if i want to upgrade graphics to 8800 have to upgrade m-board.had read column in custom pc regard to dual core having little impact in game playing. so i am debating whether going c2d based or switching boards and only replacing g-cards. any views or opinions please?

You are correct - most games at present don't take advange of dual core systems. However, the new C2D processors still offer massive performance gains over the P4 due to their better architecture.

Also, upgrading to an 8800 card while still using your P4 on s478 (is this even possible?) would probably bottleneck your system at the CPU's end.

asus board has pci-16 slot, so would take card.as well as 8800 supposedly doing most of graphics tasks so in theory less tasks on cpu?

might be a case to try it and see what happens if fails then c2d sytem
