A device in the making, perhaps a bit of a tease..

I'll appologize for the picture quality 1st, but here's something I been working on for a while.

An idea from some1 I need to confirm b4 giving creditation, a bit of adaption to the concept. They actually use it as a device, however looking a bit different to this, and with different mods.

As Rolf Harris would probably say "Can u guess what it is yet ?"

And to be fair, something I think should be on sale somewhere as a package.

Total outlay in cash so far is about £10 plus 2x 2.5mm sockets "borrowed", but even so, I'm gonna provide a semi-how-to to make them.

An MP3 player for that tw@ts that insist on playing their music to everyone around them rather than using headphones?

hmm... it does look like some noise emitting device with those slits in the middle...can't guess further than that, an alarm of some sort ?

looks kina like some sort of alarm?

Intruder? attack? perhaps, the slits on the front will only be for a single dual tone speaker but looking at the size in relation to the screws etc still a bit bulky for a personal attack device.

We should have a inventors sub forum! Post our ideas up there!

Come on dont tease what is it!!!!!

1. not intended for music. (ur headphones would be better, so perhaps would be the mp3 player unplugged)

2. not an alarm.

:p

Sound is definitely the key, not perhaps what u might immediately expect, but might be - and probably would be after realizing the outcome.

I might be in a position to post a further image 2morrow as there are 3 things coming in the post that I did pay over the odds for, but u can get them cheaper if ur not lazy.

1 of them if essential to the whole thing. Something the unit lacked that the original guy had built in. But having it not built in can be an advantage.

Oh no radio.

some kind of audible alert system on wireless activity?

some kind of tone emitter like the ones that clear hoodies away from street corners?

movement sensor ( pir ) style device with built in alarm?

Grrr can feel myself abusing Mod privileges here if i dont find out

Ok, well none of the above, but the best way to show u this in action is to linky to the place I saw it first.

Original creator's name is Foxx, part/head member of a group called BSOD linkage.

Just chatted with him on irc and he's consented to me letting the cat out of the bag if u like. There's no way I would have posted this device and claimed any mass credit for it - all I've done is originally attempted to do the same thing, bought a pos thing that failed... but adapted it :p

Episode to pay particular attention to is 13 - segment 2.

(episodes 1 to 30 are available for download, they download very quickly for me)

If ur interested in messing with all kinds of hardware, wireless, consoles - soldering 2 wires together !! Some of the things won't appeal to any1, some of them will appeal to loads of people, particularly the amazing homemade antenna works.

Device to pick up electrical currents? That's a great idea, why hasn't anybody come up with that yet? :o

Exactly what I thought when I seen the demo.

I got my pickup coil in the post today (it plugs into the modded upper 2.5mm jack), and the sucker works.

U can hear ur chips, drives - best use is as shown in the video - if u have a faulty laptop, with no idea of what's wrong, it'll easily tell u what is running current through and what's not.

Harddrives are amazing to test. Working ones are straight forward, but faulty ones make sounds u'll learn to recognize.

Even cpus make a distinct noise, gpus also. My Auzentech chips sound well weird, AND I feel I was right about it needing shielding.
