I am using a XFX Radeon 6770. The card is about 6 months old. The problem is with the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) Software.
I have been using CCC to overclock the card to a stable 950/1300 since i have owned the thing. Yesterday i accidentally ramped the ram way past its stable point and applied it. The screens went black and green like they usually do when the clock speed is too high. However, the VPU recover usually kicks in and recovers the clocks back to a stable speed.
The problem this time is that VPU is not working so i need to hold the power and shut down the computer. Upon restarting windows CCC does not automatically load up and the card is set back to its 850/1200 stock clocks. Although when i try to open CCC, the program tries to apply the unstable overclock again and the screens go black and green before the program is even visible on the screen.
My question is: How do i reset CCC to not apply the max memory clock speed upon startup so that i can drag the clock back down to a stable level? I have tried using MSI Afterburner to apply a different clock then opening CCC and the same still happens. I tried having a graphic intensive game running while opening CCC to see if VPU recover might kick in.. that also doesnt work. I can just forget about CCC altogether and use MSI to overclock and such but i can never open CCC.
I would try to uninstall the entire program and drivers and do a fresh reinstall, but i would rather ask first here in case that does not need to be done. I have also read that it may not even reset the clock speeds in CCC even with a fresh install. I'm not sure. Any Help is greatly appreciated.
This is my first post on OC3D so sorry if i sound like a complete Noob.
