9800 GX2 -- COD5 WaW + Source (And other games) problems

Hey all,

Ive been having some issues with my 9800 GX2 recently - where some games are fine, some arnt...

Firstly, proberbly worth saying that my vantage score is around 12000 (performance test thingy) - which is about right for my rig (i think..)

The problems im having with source is basically FPS, hangs around 50 - drops down to as low as 25...this is with AA off and AF down to only x4!!

Second problem is COD5 World At War (did it in COD4 aswell, same engine, same problem) - Where the FPS is around 50 to 60 smoothly at most times but, if someone throws a smoke/flash thing/arty (anything with smoke effects) huge choppyness insues (low FPS - becomes unplayable during this time)

Obviously this is extremely annoying, and ive no idea whats causing it!

Anyone got any tips or know how to solve/"help" this issue? - (Tempted to get a 260/280GTX - but i want to be sure there isnt something else i can try first!)

Note, system specs:

Q6600 @ Stock

Abit FP-IN9-Sli

BFG 9800GX2

X-Fi XtremeMusic

22" Monitor running 1650 x 1050

Hyper Type-M 680W

Running 178.24 - 184 beta's have graphic corruption in WaW

Cheers

Vista or Xp ,ive seen some threads that the gx2 is having issues at the moment,may need to wait for the next patch and nvidia driver.

* Uninstall the current Forceware driver via the Control panel.

* Reboot into "Safe" mode (F8).

* Run Driver Sweeper and choose the "NVIDIA - Display" filter.

* Press "Clean" and wait for it to finish.

* Reboot (normally).

* Cancel any hardware wizards that may appear.

* Install the desired Forceware Driver.

* Reboot.

most also update sound drivers that the other area COD5 has had same issuies fixed them by following that order. you can find it on Guru 3d com
