939 Or LGA 775

Well, I made a real n00bish mistake, and yanked the HSF from my motherboard, bringing the CPU with it  Basically, the pins where bent beyond repair (I’d know, I tried :().

So, I need to bring my upgrade plans forward a few months as I doubt that I can wait for Conroe.

The choices are out between getting myself another 939 chip (3000+) or investing in a cheap LGA 775 setup based on a 805 chip. I doubt that I’m going to get an Awful for my current 939 kit (Geil PC3200 RAM and a K8NF-9 motherboard), so my budget for the LGA 775 setup will be £200 plus whatever I can get for the motherboard and RAM.

The LGA 775 setup would be Dual core better, but it will still not be “Conroe ready”, with the only likely component I could carry over is the RAM, and with my small budget, the RAM is unlikely to be Amazing.

The 939 route on the other hand is more of a “deadend”, but it seems like both routes are.

I’m really confused, so any input would be great

Thanks

Josh

Id say save the money and just get a 3000 as cheap as you can, and then give it a big upgrade for conroe.

preferably just wait full stop but if not, the above

Hmm, I was thinking maybe that I should just wait before upgrading to a Conroe system and staying with a 939 setup until Christmas.

I was thinking a 3000 ,3700+, 3800+ or 144 and DFI expert this month and a MACH 2 and Some decent RAM in aug. What do you think?

I would deffo go dual core instead of any of those options.

There is all this talk of conroes performanc etc and it should be given the respect it deserves.

However - a dual core AMD system is perfectly capable of running all of todays applications and games, this will continue beyond December - the other chips you refer to will also serve you well - the 3800 venice core is a great buy right now.

Cheers

I want my machine back up ASAP, and with my limited budget, the most I have right now is about £100, which JUST about puts me in the OEM 3700+ area. I’ll probably leave the DFi until next month.

Basically, Dual core is out of the budget.

So, It's a another cheap 3000+, a 3500+ which is the "middle ground" (There is one in the machine I'm using right now and it's quite nippy :D), a 3700+ with 1MB but clocked to 2.2 or a 2.4GHz 3800+, but I only get the 512KB cache... The question quite simply is, which going to give the best bang for buck?

P.S, before I “broke” my rig, It simply wouldn’t boot up (No BIOS beeps at all), could a problem with the CPU have caused this?
