8GB for Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi

Hello,

I've been looking and reading as much as I can but thought I would ask the people in the know (you guys) if you have any specific recommendations for 2x(2x2GB)RAM kits for the Asus P5K Deluxe Mobo. The plan is to get a good OC of around +3.6GHz on a Q6600 and be stable. I've looked at the Muskin DDR2 but to be honest being a bit of a :noobsign: I was hoping to get info on what my best options were.

I cant say that I've really looked into going 8gb yet. I take it that you're running a 64-bit OS for starters, as otherwise there's no way Windows 32-bit will see any of that extra ram.

Yes...on my current machine (AMD X2 4400 OC @ 2.5 GHz stable)I dual boot into XP Pro32 and XP Pro64 SP2, there seem to be no issues with the software I need to use for the G0 Q6600 build so I might stick with the XP64 solution as I'm not a fan of Vista yet. All drivers/soft ware seem to work for my needs on XP64 (Adobe CS3 production premium, Sony Vegas 8) and I think once they roll out the SP3 for XP64 there shouldn't be any driver problems as SP3 should give you the same access to drivers as Vista.

Any one please...I really need to get the 8GB this week, everything else is here and waiting for the build.

Hi Kempez,

Just checking before confirming order on this, the Mushkin DD2 2(2x2GB) is as good as any. my worry is compatability, as I have to order from the US to Japan and so any incompatability issues which I don't sort out now will be my fault. RMA etc back to the states will be pretty difficult.

Why are you ordering from the US to Japan?

I cannot say for 100% certain it will work, but I see no reason why it wouldn't. I'm not going to say it deffo will though!

Prices are pretty high over here...(certain things anyway) RAM is usually double the price for higher performing stuff. Some brands aren't even available over here.

lol you wanna live in the UK, then see what you think of pricing and availability

Hey Kempez :beerchug: ,

I grew up in London man, I lived in Holland Park for 20 years. I'll be honest enough to say that I agree with you about the prices in the UK though....Trouble is every time I google reviews the majority are in the US and they throw up US prices which then just irritates me because of the 100% + price difference on most items.

I have the same board as you running 4GB RAM.

I'd really recommend going for some performance RAM like Crusial Ballistix, particularly if you're gonna be overclocking.

I work with Crucial Ballistix everyday and its by far the most stable stuff we use alongside Reaper X, G Skill, Dominator etc. Though I've never worked with Mushkin so can't really comment on its performance.

Crucial seems to be the most versatile RAM across a wide range of boards for compatibility, it overclocks pretty well and is great value for money.

I have the slower PC5300 Ballisitix Tracer in my system which is a Q6600 running at 3.6Ghz and is nice and stable with the RAM overclocked.

You may need to have a tinker with some of your system voltages if you're running 4 banks with 2GB each as well as a hefty overclock.
