Hiya guys im having problems with my 8600k, ive been running a 4.8 overclock for a few weeks at a conservative 1.3 volts playing multiple games fine, but as ive been playing dying light it keeps crashing (bsod, machine check exception) so i dialed back the overclock and updated to the latest bios but now the cpu wont overclock by mere 100mhz before it fails to boot, ive ran the cpu at stock speeds with the ram set to xmp and its stable. The motherboard im using is the prime z370-a, is anyone else having these issues or any suggestions as ive followed multiple guides and still no joy.

Cheers.

I would first try to roll back to your previous 4.8ghz OC and try that.

Intel just released a new firmware update for meltdown/spectre so it could have caused more issues...

Never ever update the bios unless it is critical.

I have had plenty of CPUs 100% stable in synthetics, only to find a game crashes. It's very common. When testing any overclock always use real world apps. Valley + a CPU stress test ought to do it.

I've found two games which crash consistently with the slightest hint of instability: PUBG and Cities:Skylines. Though in the latter I had a rather large city, fresh empty zone might not work so well. :P
