does anyone have a clue when sapphire might release the 6gb toxic 1150mhz 7970?

or when amd might release their so-called ghz-edition 7970s that overclock higher?

Not sure if that 6gb toxic is ever coming out, it's been all talk and no action since it was announced.

Not sure about the ghz 7970s either, all the new story headlines I have read say "7970 could get GHz Edition" will probably happen though but no idea when.

thanks. shame about the toxic. i've waited a few months for an upgrade, so could wait a tiny bit more. imo the gtx 670 is a better deal than the amd offerings right now, but my monitor needs amd for 3d. so i'm hoping for either the ghz edition or price drops from amd for the 79xx in one or two weeks, but definitely can't wait for 8970 or gtx 685 or anything like that. news on the ghz edition would be cool though

Isnt the toxic card just a 7970 with an ACcelero xtreme cooler on it? if so you can just buy one of those coolers, unless saphire changed the cooler recently they have all used rebranded ACcelero xtreme coolers.

didn't know that. but mainly looking to see what "improved silicon yields" means for the end user. apparently it means higher overclocks (with less power and heat) on the ghz edition. and the sapphire has 6gb of vram, not that it matters to me

There sure as heck wont be a silicon improvement. Sapphire uses the same chip every other manufacturer does. Things 3rd parties change are: Coolers, power phases, power delivery, and PCB design. NOT the chip itself.

The stories about The ghz edition point to it just being a name change really amd said "current yields are easily reaching 1200 MHz" current 7970's will make a ghz without even upping the voltage I recon!

They most certainly will, they'll hit 1125mhz easily without a voltage boost

What do u guys think of the time AMD is taking to produce the 7990?

Are they floundering or producing a monster with two ghz clocked tahiti xt cores hopefully cheaper than a 690 (which is ridiculous)

amd probably doesn't need to produce a 7990 until it can beat a 690, and going by heat and power that may not be feasible. dunno

7990 will definitely be cheaper than the 690, AMD are probably taking their time to get it right.

It's going to be close between the 690 and 7990 performance wise, 7970s in CF beat the 690 in a few games so if AMD get the drivers right and maybe two ghz 7970 chips I reckon it's going to give the 690 a run for it's money while being around £200 cheaper.

oh, king of sand i meant that amd themselves are claiming improved silicon yields, not sapphire. in any case i might wait just for reference pcbs rather than anything else. the asus dc2 doesn't appeal, and msi lightning is too expensive without justifying the cost. i'd like to see how the his iceqx2 does, since that's a custom pcb as well

The lightning is only worth it if you plan on using LN2 as it is (I think) the only GPU that will cold boot, easily attach pot, and push 2ghz.
