7900GTX Reviewed and IS the fastest!!

You mean fastest when overclocked surely?

I'm honestly awaiting a good non biased review of both on stable comparable platforms before I give any sort of final judgment, but at a first glance the 7900 GTX seems like a 7800 GTX with a smaller die and some minor tweaks that is only going to give any sort of noticeable improvements to benchmarks.

What's the point in that? Surely gaming would be a better reason to upgrade to a grands worth of graphics subsystem?!!

Interesting - I guess neither is conclusive - I dont run 16x AF (only 8x) but it seems at that setting ATI does well - the XTX is probably the fastest single card solution, but there are no XTX master cards for multi GPU - meaning it's GTX versus XT in the multi GPU shoot-out (the one that is most interesting for me ;)).

The system is not overclocked - its the review of the higher clocked standard version (as in overclocked out the box), 700Mhz on stock air though is impressive. 750+ Mhz watercooled anyone?

Strange how guru3d and legit have different SM scores for 06 though ??

Tight at teh top is good coz it's all down to price, price and price.

Impressive clocks from the cards, should see some very nice numbers from them.

Kinda narked that even with all this power you still can't run HRD and AA...

Am I the only one who is totally underwhelmed by this release?

It does make sense though that they will save the really good stuff for DX10 when they really have to do something to keep themselves well above ATI.

But i guess if you can spend £500 a card nvidia in SLI is still the one to beat.

x1900xt for a single GPU it is for now, 7900GT for SLI if you aren't loaded.

Ive heard that with the new r580 chipset it is possible to use 2 x1800s and 2 x1900s without the dongle or a master card.. its supposed to be something that was locked in the drivers therefore brings the question as to whether it can be used in an NF4 motherboard. Either way if it is true then 2 xtx's will be able to be used in conjuction with each other.

Nope, you aint alone, I`m with ya. My indifference about the 7900 is total. I also agree with your comments about single card and SLI.

AFAIK its just the X1800's for now, however no doubt they'll be a driver hack to allow the XTX's to be run. Should be enough PCI-E bw to cope, dual XTX's would be awsome, the XT masters seem to clock like pap :(

Also with the people re the NV launch... It was hyped up quite a bit IMO,everyone expecting something awsome from the Green corner.. And then they came out with an overclocked 7800GTX 512...

I don't disagree that it is nothng more than a low power, reduced heat (thanks to die shrink) and optimised 512MB GTX.

Having said that, the unit is now the speed bump from a 256MB 7800GTX (or lower) that people were waiting for - we hoped for more (32 pipes), but got something that (especially for people who have adopted SLI and dont want the expense of changing motherboards) is competitive in price and performance (unlike the 512MB 7800GTX)

Lest we forget that a 256MB 7800GTX is still a top performer (in SLI) nearly 10mths after it was launched.

Mine should land on Monday, several days before me new waterblocks :(

Someone mentioned £500 a card - it's £387 a card (which is £113 cheaper than you think for one card and £226 cheaper for SLI) and as they are all reference designs, the only difference between the top clocker and the standard unit is a BIOS (example being my 7800GTX was a refernce unit and it goe slike stink ;)), so save ur money.
