£700 Gaming PC

a 2500K with a z77 board and a 7850, for £560 I would say thats pretty damn good

EDIT : I added in a 22" 1920x1080 monitor for £100 and a keyboard for £35

Total comes to about £705

Don't think you'll get much better than that without falling to "older gen" equipment, but then the pitfall of "will game x run etc" and before you know it the need to upgrade arises quicker than ideally anticipated.

Shop around with different suppliers. Amazon are cheap atm for intel and dabs.co.uk is about the cheapest atm for practically everything else

Wow, I never realised but if you want to spend £20 extra you can get a 3570k

At this price range I'd try and seriously min/max the parts.

Not sure if "doesn't need HDDs" includes having an SDD or even not wanting one at all (saves £50)

He might not need a new case either (saves £30).

If he is willing to overclock then you can save another £20 by getting the 4100 instead of the 4170.

Looks decent but if you look at the link I posted he could get a 2500k or 3570k with a z77 board for this sort of money

I just realised I made a bit of an error with my list - thanks for poiting it out. Lemme try again! Will edit this space soon. Wrong gpu lol.

Yea so basically by going for a 41x0 build you save what, £100, on the platform over an i5 build all of which can go onto the gpu for much better fps than a 7850 can make. SSD is nice but once games load it won't make much difference.
