6970 max safe temps ?

Not got 6970 93 degrees sounds too high. I have a 5870 which is overlocked/overvolted using MSI afterburner at gets into 70's when playing games or running 3d mark or heaven etc... What case you got it in?

Check out some reviews etc.. to see temps found on other 6970 cards

whats considered to be the max safe temps for the 6970 ? , while playing avp3 i am getting temps of 93c is this normal ?

That sounds way to hot if you ask me. Is the card overclocked? If yes pull back the overclock and have a look at what temps you are getting at stock speeds. Otherwise it might be RMA time.

running with the side of my case off as made no differance to the temps , time to change the heatpaste on the gpu ?

edit : anybody know if powercolor allow the change of the heatpaste , or will they say voided warranty ?

I'm sure removing the GPU fan voids the warranty with all brands, but you may want to contact PowerColor just incase.

the reply i got from powercolor , not the reply i asked lol

The max temperature I would think safe is don't let it go over 95 degree C.

And changing fan will void warranty, actually.

If you really want to replace the fan by yourself, please do it carefully, and keep original fan so that if you need RMA services in the future, you can change it back.

asked about changing the heatpaste lol not the heatsink

Thats an appalling response, don't think much of their customer service! I think you should speak to the supplier and see if you can swap it for another or even another brand

i have emailed him back re-asking the question but do not expect a reply , should i get in touch with ebuyer as i purchased it from them ?

Have you manually set the fan speeds? What are your ambient (room) temps?

Also he said "If you really want to replace the fan by yourself, please do it carefully, and keep original fan so that if you need RMA services in the future, you can change it back."

If I'm reading it right, you can change it as long as you have the original fan and heatsink, since I doubt they'll open it up and chemically test what thermal paste you applied and void it on that basis, manufactures at least in my experience tend to give people the benefit of the doubt.

anything over 40% fanspeed sound like a jetengine sitting on my desk

That still voids the warranty

it does yes , reply from powercolor =

I think you are talking about the thermal grease. And yes, it would; but if it is the same color as we used, then it should be ok. And please mount the screws carefully if you decide to change it.

not happy that the temps go so high tbh , was expecting better this time around lol

Basically what the guy is saying, is if we can't tell that you removed the heatsink and reapplied the thermal grease than you're fine. It technically voids warranty like overclocking, but if we can't tell the difference you're fine.
